"For me, this is the big dream. I know that a lot of people are super excited about Raya being Disney's first Southeast Asian princess. But, for me, it is such a big deal for her to be my kids' new favorite superhero. It is something that I didn't get to see growing up, someone that really represented me, our voice, our culture. And to be able to have that for my children is a blessing that will last way beyond my time here on earth. So, it's an amazing moment to be part of this." RELATED: Raya and the Last Dragon Trailer #2 Chases Down an Ancient Myth on Disney+ Premier Access In the past decade, Disney has moved steadily away from its past representations of princesses as helpless victims who need men to save them. Modern Disney princesses like Elsa and Merida are usually the ones doing the saving, and it sounds like Raya is going to continue this new tradition. For Lim, Raya and the Last Dragon is a way to celebrate their Southeast Asian heritage. … [Read more...] about Raya Is More of a Superhero Than a Disney Princess Insists The Last Dragon Writers

The Joy of Vampire Sex: The Schlocky, Sensual Secrets Behind the Success of ‘True Blood’
He was able to come up with this frothy concoction because the idea of celibate vampires is ridiculous. “To me, vampires are sex,” he says. “I don’t get a vampire story about abstinence. I’m 53. I don’t care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed.” On his show, every available orifice is used for intercourse: gay, straight, between humans and supernatural beings, and supernatural being on supernatural being, whether he be werewolf, dog or an enormous Minotaur-looking being called a maenad. None of the sex is quite as good as vampire sex, though, which can happen at the astonishing rhythm of 120 bpm while simultaneously devouring one’s neck and making your eyes roll back into your head. Says Moyer, “If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn’t one before. It’s a de-virginization—breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. … [Read more...] about The Joy of Vampire Sex: The Schlocky, Sensual Secrets Behind the Success of ‘True Blood’

Must-See Anya Taylor-Joy Movies and Shows That Aren’t The Queen’s Gambit
Thoroughbreds This interesting film from director Cory Finley (Bad Education), sees Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke as two former best friends becoming close after some time apart. What ensues is a Hitchcockian tale of two semi-schemers that unfolds in ways we do and don't expect. Both actresses are superb with Taylor-Joy and Cooke having unbelievable chemistry in this tightly woven tale of two characters trying to be one step ahead of everyone around them. Taylor-Joy, as the upper crust Lily really does some fine work here. Her delivery is right on the money as we honestly don't know who the bigger con artist is between the two stars. Thoroughbreds is one of those films that didn't make a huge splash when it landed. It is an indy that was made for $5 million and it might not have even made that money back at the box office. That in no way diminishes this film or the work that Anya Taylor-Joy (and others) put forth here. Again, this film seems likely to be seen at some point as one of … [Read more...] about Must-See Anya Taylor-Joy Movies and Shows That Aren’t The Queen’s Gambit
Tupac Biopic Finally Moves Forward with New Director
RELATED: Jada Pinkett Smith Bashes Tupac Biopic Over Negative Portrayal It isn't known if Morgan Creek is moving forward with the script that John Singleton worked on, or if they have brought in a new writer since then. The project hit another stumbling block last month when co-financiers Emmet/Furla filed a $10 million lawsuit against Morgan Creek, claiming the studio breached a production agreement by selecting a lead actor and setting a budget and production schedule without Emmet/Furla's approval. Back in 2009, Morgan Creek also sued Afeni Shakur over her son's life rights, which she responded to with a $10 million cross-complaint. The lawsuits were settled and she is now an executive producer. … [Read more...] about Tupac Biopic Finally Moves Forward with New Director
