Backup Singer Dolette McDonald on Her Years With Talking Heads, the Police, and Don Henley

· March 3, 2021 ·

Rolling Stone interview series Unknown Legends features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and veteran musicians who have toured and recorded alongside icons for years, if not decades. All are renowned in the business, but some are less well known to the general public. Here, these artists tell their complete stories, giving an up-close look at life on music’s A list. This edition features backup vocalist Dolette McDonald. When Dolette McDonald walked into the Talking Heads rehearsal space shortly before the launch of their 1980 Remain in Light world tour, she had no idea that her life was about to change forever. The band had hired her sight unseen as its first backup vocalist even though her main experience was singing in the church and on a handful of disco records. She’d never heard a note of their music and didn’t know who any of them were, but she instantly integrated herself into their world and became an incredible onstage foil for David Byrne, … [Read more...] about Backup Singer Dolette McDonald on Her Years With Talking Heads, the Police, and Don Henley

Universal Orlando ‘Evaluating’ Seuss Landing Attraction After Publication Ceased On Six Books For Racial Insensitivity

· March 3, 2021 ·

Universal is mulling what — if anything — to do about the Seuss Landing kids’ space at its Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando after six Dr. Seuss books will no longer be published due to offensive depictions of racial caricatures. The attraction has areas named after a few of the offending titles. Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced this week that six titles — including And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Zoo and McElligot’s Pool, On Beyond Zebra!, Scrambled Eggs Super! and The Cat’s Quizzer — will no longer be published due to what the organization concedes are “hurtful and wrong” character portrayals. The books date from the 1930s to 1950s and have been criticized in recent years for racist caricatures of Black, Asian and Middle Eastern characters. A play area at Seuss Landing is based on If I Ran the Zoo and there’s a gift shop called Mulberry Street Store and a Mulberry Street sign. “Seuss Landing continues to be very … [Read more...] about Universal Orlando ‘Evaluating’ Seuss Landing Attraction After Publication Ceased On Six Books For Racial Insensitivity

· October 14, 2020 ·

EXCLUSIVE: Tony Goldwyn is taking over for Liev Schreiber in Warner Bros .’ King Richard which is set to return to production in Los Angeles next week after pausing due to the pandemic earlier this spring. Goldwyn is stepping in to play the role of Paul Cohen, a noted tennis coach whose clients included John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Venus and Serena Williams. I understand that Schreiber had to depart King Richard given a scheduling conflict. The Reinaldo Marcus Green directed, Zach Baylin written feature follows the true story of hardscrabble, but iron-willed father of Venus and Serena Williams, (played by Will Smith ) who had a plan to make his daughters the greatest tennis players in the world. This is how he pulled it off. The movie already logged three weeks of filming before stopping out of safety due to COVID-19. Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship Rocket Explodes Again Upon Landing

· March 3, 2021 ·

Play video content Breaking News NASA Elon Musk has some expensive bugs to fix -- another unmanned test flight of a SpaceX rocket he hoped would go to Mars went up in flames. SpaceX nearly completed the successful test flight Wednesday at its facility in South Texas. The plan is for this prototype spacecraft, called SN10, to eventually venture all the way to Mars -- but several minutes after a clean launch and return trip to Earth ... it exploded. SN10's launch was delayed due to a sputtering engine earlier in the day, but fired up for lift-off around 3 PM PT. It completed its route -- which wasn't meant to go too far up -- and touched down again, seemingly without a hitch. The official SpaceX broadcast cut out before folks at home could see it blow up, but other streams that were monitoring the action live sure caught the blast. Starship SN10 landed in one piece! https://t.co/lO4AF47MaN — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 4, 2021 @elonmusk … [Read more...] about Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship Rocket Explodes Again Upon Landing
