Former Teen Heartthrob Accused of Abusing GF
Ten years ago, no one would have guessed that a woman would want to keep Andrew Keegan AWAY from her body -- but the actor's ex-girlfriend is doing just that, claiming he beat her up and slashed her tires. A model named Kristi Parrales has filed a request for a restraining order against the " Camp Nowhere " star -- in which she claims Keegan has launched a campaign of terror against her for more than a year. In the docs, filed Monday in L.A. County Superior Court , Parrales says Keegan physically attacked her on two separate occasions, the most recent on July 4th. Parrales says Keegan "threw me across the living room in front of witnesses." Parrales says she suffered scars on her back and bruises from the incident. Parrales also claims Keegan has been rolling into her place of business recently and "calling [Kristi] names and givig [her] evil looks." TV Production Takes Another Big Hit Says FilmL.A.
California’s lack of strong tax incentives is killing TV production in Los Angeles said FilmL.A. today. “For many years, we’ve relied on Television to backfill the hole left by the flight of feature film production from the L.A. region. Television has been our bread and butter, but with Sacramento’s inaction to stem our losses, other states and countries are eating off our plate,” claims the non-profit permitting group’s president Paul Audley. The statement came as the organization released a mixed second quarter report Tuesday. It also comes less than a week after the $100 million annual state incentive inched its way towards a two year extension in the Legislature. Off lot television production days in Los Angeles were down 15.4% this quarter, FilmL.A found. Last quarter the drop was 9%. The biggest drop was among Drama, which was down 39.2% from last year to 581 days, and Reality, which fell 16.8% from the same quarter last year to 1,461 days. At the same time the … [Read more...] about TV Production Takes Another Big Hit Says FilmL.A.
California Senate Approves Tax Credit Extension For Film/TV Industry
An extension of California’s $100 million annual film and television tax credit program leaped through another legislative hurdle today. With a 32-3 vote in Sacramento, the state Senate approved extending the program two more years. The measure, sponsored by Senator Ron Calderon, now heads over to the Assembly for a vote there. “As a coalition of unions, guilds and associations representing hundreds of thousands of men and women whose livelihoods depend on the strength of the California entertainment industry, we applaud the passage of SB 1167 by the California State Senate,” said SAG-AFTRA , the Teamsters, IATSE , the Director’s Guild and others in a joint statement after the vote Tuesday. The state Assembly passed a version of the extension legislation in a 70-4 vote on August 16. Eventually, the two bodies will have to work out a joint version of the extension. The current tax credit is set to end in 2015 if the latest proposed extension does not become law. The tax credit … [Read more...] about California Senate Approves Tax Credit Extension For Film/TV Industry
Tom Sherak Q&A: Cancer Battle And $1 Salary Not Stopping New L.A. Film Czar’s Latest Quest
As my colleague Dominic Patten was first to report earlier today on Deadline, former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak has been named to the new post of LA Film Czar by Mayor Eric Garcetti. Sherak will be paid only $1 a year (“an infinity compared to what the Academy paid,” he laughed about his previous nonpaying gig) in the post designed to bring a halt to runaway production and put it back in Los Angeles, capital of the film world. Of course Sherak is no stranger to politics, of a sort: Being a former President of the Motion Picture Academy is no walk in the park. He knows the real “capital” is Sacramento, where he will spend time trying to convince Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers this is an important issue — not only for Los Angeles but California as a whole. In a conversation that turned very personal this afternoon, Sherak told me he initially resisted the job but took it only after a meeting with Garcetti this week and an OK from his … [Read more...] about Tom Sherak Q&A: Cancer Battle And $1 Salary Not Stopping New L.A.
