Beyoncé’s Grammy Record Predecessor, Georg Solti, Would Be Thrilled for Her
Getty Beyoncé broke the all-time Grammy record this weekend, an honor previously held by a classical musician for years, who'd be very happy for Bey if he was still around today. Georg Solti -- the Hungarian-British conductor who had the most Grammys before Bey took the mantle Sunday -- would absolutely celebrate her achievement ... so says his daughter, Claudia Solti . Georg died in '97 -- the year before he won his posthumous, record-setting 31st Grammy. Getty According to Claudia ... her dad's music brought people together, and she feels Beyoncé's work does the exact same thing -- more than enough reason to get excited. She tells us her father loved all kinds of music, and that she feels like he's probably somewhere out there smiling over the new milestone that's been hit ... even though, Claudia says he probably doesn't understand all the fuss about records. CBS An organization named in Georg's honor -- Georg Solti … [Read more...] about Beyoncé’s Grammy Record Predecessor, Georg Solti, Would Be Thrilled for Her

Peter Bart: Academy Pushed The Envelope Too Far, Scratches Oscar Popularity Contest
Having been a member of the Academy for several decades, I find myself suddenly embarrassed to admit it. The Academy made a grand, if puzzling, announcement last month, but now has decided to disavow it. Its board of governors, having watched Academy CEO Dawn Hudson crawl out on a limb, at this week’s board meeting decided to saw it off. The issue, of course, focuses on the Academy’s decision to award a new Oscar to this year’s “most popular” film — this in addition to its regular Oscar winner. Upon reading this announcement, all of us quickly inquired about the criteria for “popular.” The Academy has an “awards” committee to make exactly those decisions. Guess what: The committee forgot to do it. So did the governors. This is doubly ironic in that, at the very first Oscar show in 1929, the award was divided between a popular movie, Wings , and an art movie, Sunrise . The governors apparently had figured it all out 90 years ago. This year seemed a natural moment … [Read more...] about Peter Bart: Academy Pushed The Envelope Too Far, Scratches Oscar Popularity Contest
Movie Academy Expels Bill Cosby And Roman Polanski
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today that its board of governors has voted to expel Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership. The vote came during a meeting Tuesday night and was “in accordance with the organization’s Standards of Conduct,” the Academy said in announcing the news Thursday. “The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity,” it said in a statement. The act of kicking a member out of the Academy is rare, but the AMPAS board in October did vote to expel Harvey Weinstein after a special emergency meeting in October, following bombshell reports the New York Times and New Yorker about decades of alleged sexual harassment and abuse. Cosby was found guilty April 26 in Pennsylvania on three counts of aggravated indecent assault against former Temple University Andrea Constand in 2004. He awaits sentencing and faces up to 30 years … [Read more...] about Movie Academy Expels Bill Cosby And Roman Polanski
Camille Cosby Calls Bill Cosby’s Guilty Charge “Mob Justice” In Startling Statement
Camille Cosby has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004 – calling it “mob justice”. Camille Cosby, who has been married to The Cosby Show star since 1964, has gone after the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the media and Cosby’s accusers in a statement that alludes to racial injustice. “The overall media, with their frenzied, relentless demonization of him and unquestioning acceptance of accusers’ allegations without any attendant proof, have superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which guarantee due process and equal protection, and thereby eliminated the possibility of a fair trial and unbiased jury. Bill Cosby was labelled as guilty because the media and accusers said so,” she said. This comes after a jury of seven men and five women returned guilty verdicts last week on three counts of aggravated … [Read more...] about Camille Cosby Calls Bill Cosby’s Guilty Charge “Mob Justice” In Startling Statement

Please hold us in your prayers.” Her caption appeared next to a photo of Scott with their children. Alexander impressed the judges in his audition for Season 6 with an illusion in which a woman seemed to appear out of nowhere, be supported by water, then levitate. He was sent to the Vegas round after judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel voted “Yes”. He was eventually eliminated in the quarterfinals following a performance of an illusion in which a gospel choir disappeared and then reappeared a distance away.
