MSNBC drew the most total day viewers in February, beating all other cable networks in the ratings yardstick, while T he Rachel Maddow Show was the top regularly scheduled show. The other news networks also were touting their numbers: CNN beat other networks in the 25-54 demographic in the total day timeframe as well as primetime. Fox News , meanwhile, returned to the top in primetime among total viewers, after CNN led in January . Still, in February, CNN’s numbers were up 61% in primetime versus a year earlier, while MSNBC increased 23% and Fox News was down 30%. In total day, MSNBC averaged 1.36 million total viewers, followed by Fox News with 1.32 million and CNN with 1.19 million. Year over year, CNN was up 76%, MSNBC increased 37% and Fox News was down 32%. In the 25-54 demo, CNN averaged 281,000, followed by Fox News with 210,000 and MSNBC with 206,000. The President of the United States had a very good night at his CNN town hall on Tuesday. Not only did Joe Biden make it clear there was a new kind of POTUS in office, but the seasoned politician won the ratings and viewership race in a near landslide. In his first such appearance since moving into the White House on January 20, Biden’s 9-10:15 p.m. ET stint on the AT&T-owned cable newser snagged 3.5 million viewers and an audience of 880,000 in the adults 25-54 news demographic. That’s a small 6% bump in total sets of eyeballs from how he in his last socially distanced CNN town hall back on September 17. The results of last night’s Anderson Cooper -moderated event also topped both Fox News Channel’s Hannity and MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show in total viewers by 24% and 18%, respectively. Saturday Night Live‘s Feb. 6 telecast, featuring Schitt’s Creek‘s Dan Levy in his hosting debut and musical guest Phoebe Bridgers, drew a 4.2 rating household Live+Same Day rating in the 44 metered local markets and a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with local people meters. That was off by a tenth from last week in households but up two tenths in 18-49, the highest demo delivery in the 25 markets since the Nov. 7 post-election episode hosted by Dave Chappelle. In households, SNL has stayed in the 4.3-4.4 rating range for the last four telecasts. Buoyed by the election coverage, the current season of SNL — the show’s best since the conclusion of last election cycle four years ago — for the first time in its 46-year history is #1 among all comedies on broadcast and cable in Live+7 18-49 and total viewers. Down 19% among adults 18-49 from both its Season 23 opener of September 12, 2016 and its Season 24 premiere of March 20 this year, the beginning of Season 25 last night was an all-time debut demo low for the celeb competition show. With Debbie Gibson, Nick Lachey, ex-NFL player Terrell Owens and ex-NBA star Derek Fisher among those hitting the dance floor and hitting an viewership debut low too, the 8 – 10 PM DWTS pulled in 10.8 million sets of eyeballs on Monday to still be the most watched and highest rated show of the night on the Big 4. That was off by a tenth in households from last week’s show, hosted by Dan Levy, tied for a season low, and down three tenths in 18-49.
