Suffice it to say that Avatar: The Way of Water commanded the Visual Effects Society ’s attention. James Cameron box office-smash sequel scored a record 14 nominations for the 2023 VES Awards , which were announced today. Helped by three noms in the Emerging Technology category, Disney’s The Way of Water topped the single-year noms haul by Disney+’s The Mandalorian in 2021. It also shattered the old high-water mark for films, set by — no big surprise here — the original Avatar, which amassed 11 noms in 2010. Getty A "WaterWorld" performer at Universal Studios Hollywood is hospitalized after taking a 30-foot drop into a tank, and not coming back up for air ... TMZ has learned. Authorities tell TMZ ... the incident happened during a Monday show at the theme park. We're told the performer went into the water -- as planned in the show, but it was clear something went wrong when he did not immediately surface. Getty We don't know if the performer had a medical emergency while underwater, or if he was somehow injured by the 30-foot fall into the tank ... possibly getting knocked out on impact. When folks noticed the performer wasn't coming out of the water, we're told employees pulled him out and he was given CPR on the spot for more than 5 minutes. Those employees were able to get his heart beating again, and the performer was then rushed to a hospital. It's unclear what his condition is currently. EXCLUSIVE: Peter Smith is leaving MBC Studios after four years as Managing Director. We’ve learned the international industry veteran is stepping down from the premium production arm of Middle Eastern and North African network MBC, though he’ll continue to advise on production and distribution. In a statement to Deadline, MBC CEO Sam Barnett confirmed the exit and said a successor would be named “in due course, in coming days.” Smith is a former NBCUniversal International President and was CEO of Cineflix Studios and Greece-based broadcaster Antenna Group. He joined MBC Studios in 2018 as it launched as the production arm of free-to-air network MBC, which is the largest media company in the MENA region. UK government rules obliged the former Health Secretary to report in the Register of Members’ Financial Interests that he received the money from I’m a Celebrity producer Lifted Entertainment on 14 December – two weeks after filming ended – after appearing on the show for 30 days. Hancock has previously said he donated £10,000 ($12,300) of the fee to charity.
