Elvis star Austin Butler ’s Golden Globes speech has taken on even greater emotional heft since yesterday’s passing of Lisa Marie Presley : At the end of his acceptance he singled out Lisa Marie and mother Priscilla, pledging his love. Watch the video above. Accepting the win for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Butler, who played the title character in Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis , said, “The Presley family, thank you guys, thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.” Butler and the Presleys appeared visibly emotional, with Elvis’ daughter and ex-wife patting their hearts in response to Butler’s words, even as the actor quipped as the wrap-up music started, “You could at least play ‘Suspicious Minds’ or something.” Both Lisa Marie and Priscilla were outspoken supporters of Butler’s performance, with Priscilla saying last year that the actor “got Elvis to a T.” During an ET Golden … [Read more...] about ‘Elvis’ Star Austin Butler Pledges “Forever” Love To Lisa Marie Presley In Golden Globes Speech – Watch

Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review

January 11, 2015 by deadline.com

Meryl Streep nailed it when she said, in the final seconds of the 72nd Golden Globe Awards telecast: “How much are we going to miss Amy and Tina?” The co-hosts, sparingly but brilliantly deployed throughout NBC ’s three-hour-three-minute telecast, opened the show with a string of zingers connected to the Sony hack, North Korea and The Interview . Fey welcomed “all you despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats,” referencing (perhaps even defusing) an email between a certain film producer and a certain SPE executive. The were ably assisted by comedienne Margaret Cho, impersonating a North Korean member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who was decidedly non-plussed by the event (where are 1,000 children playing the same song on the guitar, she demanded to know. Where’s Dennis Rodman?). They executed several exquisite barbs (I especially loved Poehler’s “ Boyhood proves there are still roles for women over 40—as long as you’re hired before you’re 40,” and … [Read more...] about Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review

I was given this role called Maura Pfefferman and it’s been the most transformative role and the most challenging,” the actor remarked of his transgendered role on Transparent . “I’m 70 years old, this doesn’t happen every day. This was not for the reviews, the rewards, but to get it right.” Tonight’s GG win was the first for the 6-time Emmy nominated Tambor. The actor also held nothing back in his praise of Amazon Studios . “Amazon and Joe (Lewis) were behind me,” he said of the Jeff Bezos formed company, “they have guts and they have taste.” Tambor’s remarks on the studio and its support echo those of Soloway late last year . 2023 Golden Globes Generates 33M Viewing Minutes On Peacock

January 20, 2023 by deadline.com

EXCLUSIVE: The 80th annual Golden Globes generated 33M minutes of viewing on Peacock in the first two days the awards show was available on the service. This year not only marked the ceremony’s return to broadcast television on NBC , but it also was the first year that the show was live streamed on Peacock. During the day of the event and the day after, the show drew 793,000 video starts, which the streamer defines as any video start or viewing session, and not unique viewers. A single viewer can have multiple video starts. According to the streamer, that’s a 245% increase from 2021’s ceremony — though it’s important to note that the full 2021 show was only available as video on demand and not in real time. NBC drew its lowest audience ever for the Golden Globes earlier this month, with an average of just 6.3M people tuning in according to live+same-day Nielsen data. The additional context of viewership on Peacock helps paint a picture of how much the … [Read more...] about 2023 Golden Globes Generates 33M Viewing Minutes On Peacock

George Clooney Puts Trophies In Perspective During Cecil B. DeMille Award Speech

January 11, 2015 by deadline.com

Hollywood’s impossibly handsome leading man-cum-conscience George Clooney modestly thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for keeping small films alive, in picking up the group’s Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes tonight. “Big ones do fine; it’s the small ones that need the audience,” said Clooney, who’s known for his “one for them, one for me” approach to his career. Leave it to Clooney to put the trophy show in perspective. “For the record, if you’re in this room you’ve caught the brass ring,” he told the crowd. “You get to do what you’ve always dreamed to do and be celebrated for it, and it ain’t losing.” That said, Clooney noted that awards don’t really mean much in the long run. “I don’t remember how many awards Lauren Bacall won. I remember her saying, ‘Just put your lips together and blow.’ And I have no idea what kind of hardware Robin Williams took home, but I sure remember, ‘Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.’ “So, … [Read more...] about George Clooney Puts Trophies In Perspective During Cecil B. DeMille Award Speech

BAFTA Heads Jane Millichip & Emma Baehr On An “Extraordinary” Nominations Outcome, Spielberg & Diversity

January 20, 2023 by deadline.com

Netflix’s wartime epic All Quiet On The Western Front leads the 2023 BAFTA film awards with what new BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip described as an “extraordinary” haul of nominations across craft and performance categories. The German-language film nabbed 14 nominations, the most BAFTA noms for an individual film since The King’s Speech in 2011, which also had 14. Millichip, who this year oversees her first Film Awards as BAFTA CEO, said the film’s success represents the “mesmerizing” range of this year’s nominations as well as the films that can now be embraced by BAFTA voters. “I think that the breadth of storytelling is really interesting,” Millichip said. “So you have big commercial films like Elvis , which has nine nominations, and then indie films like Aftersun . There is also 40% ethnic diversity in our nominees.” All Quiet’s haul also matches the previous record set by Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for the most nominations for a non-English … [Read more...] about BAFTA Heads Jane Millichip & Emma Baehr On An “Extraordinary” Nominations Outcome, Spielberg & Diversity
