Samuel L. Jackson ( The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey ) has signed on to star alongside Chris Pratt in Alcon Entertainment ’s animated Garfield film. The film from director Mark Dindal ( Chicken Little , Emperor’s New Groove ) is based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strip of the same name, which follows a cynical and lazy orange cat of the same name and his interactions with his owner, Jon Arbuckle, along with his fellow pet, Odie. Jackson will play a brand-new character, Garfield’s father Vic. David Reynolds ( Finding Nemo ) adapted the screenplay. DNEG Animation is animating and producing the film with Alcon Entertainment. John Cohen ( Despicable Me , Angry Birds ) and Steven P. EGOT winner Rita Moreno ( West Side Story ) has joined the cast of Fast X , as the grandmother of Vin Diesel ’s Dominic Toretto, Deadline can confirm. She joins an ensemble that also includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Cardi B and Scott Eastwood, as previously announced. Actor Alia Bhatt on Tuesday announced that Darlings, her debut film as a producer, will premiere on streaming platform Netflix. The 29-year-old actor is starring in and producing the film through her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, in collaboration with superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. Warner Bros’ epic Dune won the Live Action Motion Picture prize Saturday at the 58th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards, duplicating its victory earlier this awards season at the MPSE Golden Reels to become the frontrunner in the Sound category at next week’s Oscars.
