2nd Update, 7:14 PM: “This is about changing people’s lives, this is about freedom,” said Jeffrey Tambor tonight backstage at the Golden Globes after accepting the the Best Actor in Television Series – Comedy or Musical award. “Jill (Soloway) transformed my life and changed my life. I was given this role called Maura Pfefferman and it’s been the most transformative role and the most challenging,” the actor remarked of his transgendered role on Transparent . “I’m 70 years old, this doesn’t happen every day. This was not for the reviews, the rewards, but to get it right.” Tonight’s GG win was the first for the 6-time Emmy nominated Tambor. The actor also held nothing back in his praise of Amazon Studios . “Amazon and Joe (Lewis) were behind me,” he said of the Jeff Bezos formed company, “they have guts and they have taste.” Tambor’s remarks on the studio and its support echo those of Soloway late last year . Peter Bart: Golden Globes And “Top Gov” Reveal Depths Of The Culture Chasm
In his new ad campaign, former Navy prosecutor Ron DeSantis dons an aviator outfit replete with goggles, billing himself as “Top Gov” and spoiling for a dogfight against the liberal-leaning media. Those who disagree with his positions are promptly dis-invited to future speeches or press conferences. Will this strategy appeal to a broad audience, or will it limit the Florida governor to a “niche”? Top Gov has his eyes on the widest niche — the presidency — and hence has set his campaign on a political version of Cruise control. Says his top communications aide, ”We know the media hates us and hates everything we stand for.” Does DeSantis honestly believe he can unite the Republican Party by being even more polarizing than Donald Trump was before he was voted out and, many charge, fomented an attempt at a government overthrow by his unruly hardline base, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers crowd? His strategy is the opposite of the one employed by the Golden Globes and … [Read more...] about Peter Bart: Golden Globes And “Top Gov” Reveal Depths Of The Culture Chasm

Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review
Meryl Streep nailed it when she said, in the final seconds of the 72nd Golden Globe Awards telecast: “How much are we going to miss Amy and Tina?” The co-hosts, sparingly but brilliantly deployed throughout NBC ’s three-hour-three-minute telecast, opened the show with a string of zingers connected to the Sony hack, North Korea and The Interview . Fey welcomed “all you despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats,” referencing (perhaps even defusing) an email between a certain film producer and a certain SPE executive. The were ably assisted by comedienne Margaret Cho, impersonating a North Korean member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who was decidedly non-plussed by the event (where are 1,000 children playing the same song on the guitar, she demanded to know. Where’s Dennis Rodman?). They executed several exquisite barbs (I especially loved Poehler’s “ Boyhood proves there are still roles for women over 40—as long as you’re hired before you’re 40,” and … [Read more...] about Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review
2023 Golden Globes Generates 33M Viewing Minutes On Peacock
EXCLUSIVE: The 80th annual Golden Globes generated 33M minutes of viewing on Peacock in the first two days the awards show was available on the service. This year not only marked the ceremony’s return to broadcast television on NBC , but it also was the first year that the show was live streamed on Peacock. During the day of the event and the day after, the show drew 793,000 video starts, which the streamer defines as any video start or viewing session, and not unique viewers. A single viewer can have multiple video starts. According to the streamer, that’s a 245% increase from 2021’s ceremony — though it’s important to note that the full 2021 show was only available as video on demand and not in real time. NBC drew its lowest audience ever for the Golden Globes earlier this month, with an average of just 6.3M people tuning in according to live+same-day Nielsen data. The additional context of viewership on Peacock helps paint a picture of how much the … [Read more...] about 2023 Golden Globes Generates 33M Viewing Minutes On Peacock
