Just in time for another awards show, NBC has finally firmed up its anticipated Golden Globes deal with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The broadcast home of the film and TV awards for over two decades will keep the show for another eight years, starting with the 2009 telecast. “We look forward to airing the Golden Globe Awards on NBC for the next eight years at least,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt. “We’ve been the proud home of the Globes since 1996, and over those decades we’re honored to have been part of its transformation into Hollywood’s most joyous awards ceremony. And this year will be no different.” Negotiations between NBC and the HFPA, similar to many awards contracts these days, took a bit longer than expected. The HFPA announced its 2019 awards calendar earlier in the summer without the deal in place. But the pair, alongside producers Dick Clark Productions, were largely expected to continue the current … [Read more...] about NBC and HFPA Sign 8-Year Deal for Golden Globes

A day after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced new policies and procedures that will govern the coming Oscar season, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has updated the rules and regulations on its website to reflect changes that will impact this year's race to the Golden Globes. One alteration might be called "the Big Little Lies rule," in recognition of the HBO program that competed at the Golden Globes last year. That show was entered at the Globes as a limited series, but the very day after nomination voting ended, HBO revealed that it would be brought back for a second season, meaning it wasn't a limited series after all, which irked many. While the HFPA seems to recognize that there is very little that it can do to prevent that sort of a situation from occurring again, it does seem to want to clarify — sort of — how the second season of a show like Big Little Lies will be classified, adding to its rules, "A television limited series that is … [Read more...] about Golden Globes Rule Changes Include One That Appears to Be Inspired by ‘Big Little Lies’
The red carpet at the 75th Golden Globes could have been a fashionable relative to 2017’s Women’s March. The path was overrun by women’s rights advocates and film and TV actresses, all wearing monochrome black Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. As celebrities strode past interviewers on the red carpet, there were fewer questions than usual about dress designers and more comments about gender equality and racial justice. The nearly uniform palette was a symbolic statement organized to support Time’s Up, a campaign to diversify the executive ranks of entertainment and other industries. As Globes nominee Claire Foy (“The Crown”) put it, “It’s not a fashion statement. It’s a solidarity statement.” That was a strategy followed by black-clad emcee Seth Meyers. Taking aim at male misbehavior in Hollywood, the talk-show host greeted the audience with “Good evening ladies and remaining gentlemen. “For the … [Read more...] about ‘Their time is up’ is Oprah’s rallying cry at Golden Globes
