Actors’ Equity Disputes Strike’s Impact On Michael Jackson Musical’s Canceled Chicago Staging – Update
Update, with Equity statement Actors’ Equity isn’t shouldering the blame for the cancellation of a pre- Broadway engagement of the new Michael Jackson jukebox musical, saying any delays caused by the recent Equity strike were “modest.” “It’s incredibly disappointing that the actors and stage managers who are currently working to develop this project were not informed about a major production change before a public media announcement was made,” said Brandon Lorenz, Communications Director, Actors’ Equity Association in a statement. “The developmental lab that was scheduled for this production was delayed by 12 working days during the strike. It is difficult to understand how a modest delay in February would impact a run that was scheduled for late October.” Earlier today, producers for Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough canceled a pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago , blaming “scheduling difficulties” caused by the recently ended Actors’ Equity strike. ‘Zoey 101’ Star Alexa Nikolas Says Reboot Damaging to Nickelodeon Survivors
TMZ.com Former "Zoey 101" star Alexa Nikolas says moving forward with a reboot of the show is a slap in the face, given the alleged abuse she and others endured at Nickelodeon. We got Alexa as she was protesting outside the network HQ in Burbank -- where she says she was traumatized while making the hit show -- and she got candid about her misgivings toward old costars participating in the new version. Sundance Review: Adura Onashile’s Tender Mother And Daughter Story ‘Girl’
Premiering in the World Dramatic Competition, Adura Onashile’s debut feature Girl takes place in Glasgow, Scotland, but, given its themes of identity and belonging, this tender story of a refugee mother and daughter might as well be happening anywhere. Though the production values are exceptional for a low-budget British movie, there is also the sense that, by leaning into her restrictions, Onashile has found an interesting way to tell her story, taking us into the claustrophobic, fishbowl lives of these two loners so that it is the outside world that seems strange and ‘other’ to us whenever we are faced with it. The mother, Grace (Déborah Lukumuena), is in her mid-’20s, and she is devoted to her 11-year-old daughter Ama (Le’Shantey Bonsu). Their backstory is never fully explained, just that the two only have each other and don’t wish for anything else other than some sort of posh domestic idyll for them to live in together, complete with carpets “soft and white, like … [Read more...] about Sundance Review: Adura Onashile’s Tender Mother And Daughter Story ‘Girl’
