There’s a new version of The X-Files on the horizon from Ryan Coogler , according to series X-Files Chris Carter. “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory,” Carter revealed Monday on the CBC podcast On t he Coast with Gloria Macarenko . 20th Television declined to comment. Deadline has reached out Coogler’s reps. Coogler’s production banner Proximity Media is under a five-year exclusive deal with Disney Television, which Deadline reported exclusively in 2021. The X-Files premiered in 1993 with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson starring as FBI Special Agents Mulder and Scully, respectively. For 11 seasons, the duo investigated cases involving the paranormal. The show, which is the first to emerge from the Deutschland 83 creator’s Netflix deal , tells the story of the Emergency Rescue Committee, an organization that helped thousands of refugees escape Nazi-occupied Marseille during World War Two. EXCLUSIVE: Robert Eggers and his The Lighthouse star Willem Dafoe have found their next project on which to collaborate, with Dafoe in talks to join Eggers’ Nosferatu at Focus Features. Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skarsgard and Nicholas Hoult already are on board, with Eggers writing and directing. Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Eggers, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus are producing. In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him. Focus had no comment on the project. It is unknown who Dafoe will be playing. EXCLUSIVE : Audible is teaming up with singer, song-writer and actor Leigh-Anne Pinnock on an adaptation of The Little Mermaid . Based on the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen, the Audible version has been adapted by lyricist Dina Gregory with Pinnock providing narration. Gregory wove some of Pinnock’s own lived experiences into the story and the former Little Mix member invited singers anaiis, Kersha Bailey, Sairah Rowe and Nadine Samuels to provide original vocals. The project is produced by String and Tins. Anderson’s story follows a young mermaid who makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. The series will be available from March 23 and comes two months before Disney’s feature reboot of the classic tale.
