Officials removed the historic gem Monday morning -- located on 7th Ave. and 50th St. in Midtown Manhattan -- and it was truly the last of its kind. And, just like that, no one will be asking for a dime to make a phone call anymore. This marks the end of the New York City public payphone era. There are still 4 full-length so-called "Superman booths" in Manhattan's Upper West Side -- and, as you might expect, they're essentially museum pieces ... where kids use 'em for Instagram photoshoots. Before Inigo Philbrick became known as the art world’s “ mini-Madoff ,” he cultivated a reputation as a wunderkind gallerist. A bon vivant with boyish good looks and even better connections, Philbrick opened two of his own art galleries by his early 30s. Philbrick had enjoyed the backing of a top gallerist and the trust of seasoned collectors. He boasted a comely girlfriend and had ingratiated himself with her family. Philbrick, as it would turn out, was a scammer. He pleaded guilty on Nov. 18, 2021 to one count of wire fraud. At the time, the then 34-year-old Philbrick admitted in court that between 2016 and 2019, he “knowingly engaged” in a scheme to rake in cash using “material representations and omissions” in his business deals, including shady tactics like peddling more shares in an artwork than actually existed. Jared Kushner and Steve Mnuchin traveled through the Middle East in the weeks before Trump left office, ostensibly to raise money for the Abraham Fund, which was supposed to fund various development initiatives in the region. The New York Times reported on Monday, however, that the fund was essentially a shell, that it dissolved after the former president left office, and that Kushner and Mnuchin’s own firms went on to land hundreds of millions of dollars from the nations they visited while working in the White House. Kushner has since pitched investing in his firm, Affinity Partners, as a way to uphold the Abraham Accords, the 2020 peace agreement between the U.S., Israel, and the UAE that inspired the creation of the Abraham Fund, according to the Times . Isaiah Lee, the 23-year-old accused of attacking Dave Chappelle on stage earlier this month, recalled his backstage meeting with the comedian in a new interview with The New York Post . Lee said Chappelle asked him why he tackled him during a stand-up set at the Hollywood Bowl, to which Lee said, “I told him my mother and grandmother, who fought for his civil rights to be able to speak, would be upset at the things he said.” According to Lee, Chappelle replied, “Now your story will die with you, son.” Lee then noted, “But he’s wrong. I’m sitting here talking to you about it.” Lee’s version of the conversation came after Chappelle offered his side at a stand-up show after the attack.
