Galaxies in star wars
Everybody remembers the mysterious Broom Boy at the end of Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi, but we haven't given him a whole lot of thought since then. A new fan theory suggests that the recently rumored time jump in Star Wars 9 will be long enough to turn Broom Boy into Broom Teen, with the side character possibly helping out the Rebellion in some capacity. This also means that there could be a lot of younger Jedi running around the galaxy, ready for Rey to train them. John Boyega revealed that he has to grow his afro out for Star Wars 9, which sent the internet ablaze with speculation. The influence of Asian cinema on Star Wars is well documented. Famously the Jidaigeki genre of films, predominantly the work of Akira Kurosawa, had a major impact on George Lucas at a time when he was starting to discover world cinema. Inspiration for the peripheral droid character narrative came directly from Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress, and Lucas wanted to make his film half in Japanese, with Toshiro Mifune playing Obi-Wan. While the final product appropriated a range of Japanese storytelling devices rather than directly incorporating the culture, it’s a respectful homage as opposed to a shameless take. Jedi was mined from Jidaigeki, the peasants became R2D2 and C3PO, and the escorting of Princess Yuki became the saving of Princess Leia. Much like an artery pumping myth and … [Read more...] about Tales of Starlight and Rey: Asian storytelling in Star Wars
Star Wars: Episode IX. Star Wars Episode VII has just recently released on Blu-ray and digital HD. There is no doubt it was one of the biggest films of 2017. The former princess show offs some serious force abilities and definitely proved why she was promoted to general. She seemed poised to have a large part to finish her character’s run in Episode IX. On any given day, there are no shortage of Star Wars rumors, and one of the most recent ones to surface was that Meryl Streep may be eyed to replace the late great Carrie Fisher in Star Wars 9. That has never been confirmed, but it hasn't stopped others from asking about it, and during a new interview to promote the home video release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill was asked about the possibility of re-casting another actress to step in and play Leia in Star Wars 9, and here's what he had to say in response. The Star Wars icon does bring up a good point, about how prominent Han Solo was in The Force Awakens and how prominent Luke Skywalker was in The Last Jedi, before both characters were ultimately killed off in those respective movies. There had been rumors after Carrie Fisher passed away in December 2016 at age 60, that there were still some big moments the actress had left to film, including a confrontation with her son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), but those rumors were never … [Read more...] about Mark Hamill on Recasting Carrie Fisher in Star Wars 9: She’s Irreplaceable
