Drake has announced the arrival of new music this Friday at midnight, and according to his Instagram teaser, the new material appears to be connected to his Scary Hours EP, released back in 2018. View this post on Instagram A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) The news comes as a relief for Drake fans, who have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the rapper’s new album Certified Lover Boy . The LP was originally slated to drop in January 2021 before being pushed back; although Drake has insisted that Certified Lover Boy will still be out this year, no new release date has been publicly announced. “I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” Drake wrote in an Instagram story in January. “I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t dropping in January. I’m looking forward to … [Read more...] about Drake Teases New Music, Sequel to ‘Scary Hours’ EP at Midnight

The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer
Earlier this winter, Robert Finley was backstage at Seattle’s Showbox nightclub discussing his remarkable personal history when the subject of his age came up. The soul singer said he would be turning 64 soon – on February 13th, in fact. “Robert, that’s tomorrow,” said his friend and bandleader Dan Auerbach , breaking into laughter. “With Robert,” Auerbach explained, “every day is his birthday, and is a bit of a celebration.” Finley has plenty of reasons to celebrate lately. After spending almost all of his life living in obscurity within 50 miles of the tiny town of Bernice, Louisiana, Finley has been playing sold-out rooms across the country as part of Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound Revue (That tour just wrapped last week; Finley begins a solo headlining tour May 20th in New York). Tonight in Seattle, Finley sang six songs, bringing the house down with his booming range, posessing what Auerbach calls a “deep yearning.” Related Inside Dan Auerbach's Own Rolling Thunder … [Read more...] about The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer
Inside Dan Auerbach’s Own Rolling Thunder Revue
Dan Auerbach can’t even make it to the dressing room before he has to stop to talk about the gig he just played. “This is the most fun I’ve had onstage,” he says, beaming in the hallway of Seattle’s Showbox nightclub as roadies navigate around him. “This band, these players, these legends – this is exactly why I love music.” He’s talking about his Easy Eye Sound Revue, which kicks off its second leg Thursday at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club and runs through April 5th . The tour is named after Auerbach’s Nashville studio, where he has been making music with longtime session pros like drummer Gene Chrisman and keyboardist Bobby Wood since the Black Keys went on hiatus in 2014. “These guys played with Elvis, and were on ‘Son of a Preacher Man,'” Auerbach says. Those players take the music from his 2017 album, Waiting on a Song , to new heights live, performing explosive versions of tracks like “Stand By My Girl” and “Cherrybomb,” a dark, Grateful Dead–style jam. “There was no … [Read more...] about Inside Dan Auerbach’s Own Rolling Thunder Revue
Metallica Celebrates ‘Master of Puppets’ Anniversary on ‘Colbert’
Metallica’s classic album Master of Puppets turned 35 on Wednesday, and, to celebrate, the band appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform its opening track, “Battery.” As a nod to their highly influential metal album and the tour surrounding it, Metallica performed in front of their original Damage, Inc tour backdrop, “So much fun to be back on the @colbertlateshow again celebrating 35 years of Master of Puppets , firing up Battery, and dusting off the old wrinkled backdrop… Actually, considering what craziness it’s been exposed to over its lifetime, it’s in remarkably good shape..(the backdrop that is!!),” drummer Lars Ulrich joked on Instagram. St. Vincent’s Family Ties
One of the last times Annie Clark went to see her father in a Texas prison, a fellow visitor asked her to autograph a receipt — the only paper they had on hand. “You can’t bring phones in, so you can’t take a normal selfie. I guess I’m glad that a selfie of me in there doesn’t exist,” Clark, 38, says. “I find it very darkly comic. It’s obviously very sad, but it’s also incredibly funny.” Clark saw her father taken away by the U.S. government in May 2010 for what she describes as “white-collar nonsense.” Over the next near-decade, she visited him in between releasing four albums of increasingly acclaimed art rock as St. Vincent . She performed with Nirvana at the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony … and was forced to go to Walmart more than once to buy XXL sweatpants when the prison deemed her clothing too tight for a visit. She won Best Rock Song at the 2019 Grammys … while the massive collection of books she brought for her dad to read behind bars was confiscated … [Read more...] about St. Vincent’s Family Ties
