NBCUniversal Ad Group Formalizes New Exec Structure, Streamlining Efforts Across Broadcast, Sports, Cable & Streaming
NBCUniversal ’s advertising and partnerships group has formalized a new executive structure reflecting its recent moves to streamline efforts in broadcast, cable, sports and streaming. In a blog post, Linda Yaccarino , chairman of global advertising and partnerships, said the new setup aims to “continue mirroring how our customers use One Platform,” the company’s system for advertisers. The changes come as the company is looking to fortify its resources in data, distribution, ad tech, commercial innovation and measurement. NBCU is getting set to host its annual developer conference, One23, next month ahead of NewFronts and upfront presentations in May. While the blog post does not cite any departures from the ranks, some contraction has rippled through the total NBCU workforce in recent months, including in sales, amid an overall downturn in ad spending. Yaccarino’s longtime deputy, Laura Molen, recently announced plans to exit by the end of March. At the same … [Read more...] about NBCUniversal Ad Group Formalizes New Exec Structure, Streamlining Efforts Across Broadcast, Sports, Cable & Streaming

‘Dr. Phil’ To End After 21 Seasons As Seismic Changes In Syndicated Daytime Talk Show Market Continue
Another daytime fixture, Dr. Phil McGraw, is leaving after more than two decades as one of television’s most popular talk show hosts. His syndicated daytime show, Dr. Phil, will end its run with original episodes with the current 2022-2023 television season, the show’s 21st. McGraw’s decision comes as his most recent contract is coming to an end. Dr. Phil previously received a five-season renewal in 2018 as part of a mega deal extension with CBS Media Ventures, taking it through its 21st season. It’s been a transformational year in the increasingly challenging daytime talk show landscape, with stalwarts The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show, Maury, Dr. Oz as well as The Real all ending within the past 12 months. CBS Media Ventures will offer stations library episodes of Dr. Phil for the 2023-2024 season and beyond. They will include new content such as wrap-arounds and intros by McGraw, as well as guest updates. I hear the distributor is aiming … [Read more...] about ‘Dr. Phil’ To End After 21 Seasons As Seismic Changes In Syndicated Daytime Talk Show Market Continue
Snap Inc. Shares Slide Again After Uneven Q4 Results
Shares in Snap Inc ., the parent of Snapchat beset by a confluence of adverse market forces, fell again in after-hours trading after its latest quarterly financial report. Revenue came in at $1.3 billion, slightly below Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast for $1.31 billion and flat with the 2021 quarter, while operating losses widened significantly. In the period ending December 31, losses totaled $287.6 million, compared with a $25.1 million loss a year ago. Earnings per share of 14 cents beat analysts’ outlook for 11 cents, but on an adjusted basis they added up to a loss of 18 cents, a big swing from 22 cents of profit per share in the year-earlier quarter. Daily active user levels for Snapchat matched the Street’s expectation, rising to 375 million from 363 million in the third quarter. Growth in the current first quarter of 2023 will slow, putting the total at 382 million to 384 million, the company projected. “We anticipate that the operating environment will … [Read more...] about Snap Inc. Ron DeSantis Joins GOP Chorus Targeting DirecTV For Dropping Newsmax
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that Congress should investigate AT&T and DirecTV for their decision to drop Newsmax and, last year, One America News Network . “I think there should be no ideological litmus test when you have these big companies that have the decision to make or break a news network, or any type of network,” DeSantis said. “They will give different rationales for why they don’t want to do it, but the reality is they have so much other content that is very lightly viewed, and they keep that on, and it seems it is the One America News and the Newsmax that are being targeted. So I think it does warrant an investigation.” His comments at a press conference Tuesday are not much of a surprise, as the potential 2024 Republican presidential contender has seized on other instances of alleged corporate bias. In the case of the Walt Disney Co., cruise ship lines and social media companies, DeSantis has championed efforts to punish or rein in the private … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis Joins GOP Chorus Targeting DirecTV For Dropping Newsmax
NBC’s ‘La Brea’ Likely To End With Abbreviated Season 3 As Networks Start Building Strike Contingency
EXCLUSIVE : NBC earlier today announced that its sci-fi drama La Brea has been renewed for a third season. I have learned that the pickup is for six episodes and that it was influenced by the possibility of a writers and/or directors and actors strike, with this likely being the show’s final chapter. Filming is slated to begin in March in Australia. With the current WGA contract expiring May 1 and the DGA and SAG-AFTRA contracts up June 30, a potential work stoppage could impact the start of production on the new broadcast season, leaving the networks without fresh episodes of scripted series for the first few weeks of the fall. Possibly with that in mind, I hear NBC approached the cast of La Brea about doing a short third season. Because the series regulars have a 10-episode minimum guarantee (meaning that they have to be paid at least 10 episodic fees a season regardless of how many episodes are produced), the network and sister studio Universal Television asked … [Read more...] about NBC’s ‘La Brea’ Likely To End With Abbreviated Season 3 As Networks Start Building Strike Contingency
