‘Avatar 2’ Rises To No. 5 On All-Time Global Chart; Will It Overtake ‘Titanic’ Next?

With Wednesday’s worldwide box office grosses included, James Cameron ’s Avatar : The Way of Water has surpassed $2.054B globally, and jumped up a notch on the all-time worldwide chart. Globally through yesterday, the epic sci-fi adventure passed Avengers: Infinity War ($2,052M) with $2,054.7M to become the No. 5 highest-grossing movie ever worldwide. As we wrote on Sunday, this advance was expected this week, while the next film in the sights for Avatar: The Way of Water to beat is Star Wars: The Force Awakens . That will happen across the coming days and give James Cameron three of the top four highest-grossing titles globally. After that, can the filmmaker’s Way of Water beat his own Titanic ? Through Wednesday, Way of Water is about $135M away, and is expected to pass the tragic story of Rose and Jack. Pathé & Logical Pictures Team On Slate Financing Deal As French Studio Targets Big Budget Local & European Tentpoles

French studio Pathé and film and TV financier and producer Logical Pictures have announced a three-year co-production and co-financing deal. The operation involving Logical Content Ventures, a new fund operated by Logical Pictures, will see Pathé open up the financing of its films to private investors for the first time in its history. Under the deal with Pathé, Logical Content Ventures will contribute to the financing of all films produced and acquired by Pathé between 2022 and 2024. The aim is to co-finance and co-produce more than 20 pictures together with the first projects being released as soon as Spring 2023. French Gender Equality Group Launches #CesarSoMale Campaign After Female Directors Shut Out Of Awards

French gender equality and diversity group Le Collectif 50/50 has hit out at the lack of female representation at the upcoming César awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars. The protest comes after not a single woman made it into the Best Director category in nominations announced Wednesday. The awards ceremony is February 24 in Paris. Just one feature by a female director — Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi’s controversy-hit Forever Young — was nominated for Best Film.
