MILLIONS of pounds promised in the Fresh Start agreement to promote integrated education can be carried over into future years, it has been confirmed.The Stormont House and Fresh Start Agreements included plans to invest up to £50 million a year, for 10 years, on unsegregated schooling.The huge investment was welcomed by ministers at the time as "another step forward on the road to building a better Northern Ireland".It was designed to unblock through investment "one of the most persistent obstacles towards a shared future for Northern Ireland's communities".Just £3m was spent in 2016/17, however, and it appeared there was little possibility of the unspent cash rolling over to another year. Three community projects across the north west have been allocated over £700,000 between them by the International Fund for Ireland. The IFI confirmed this week that the Leafair Community Association in Derry has been allocated £298,008 to extend and expand the 3D Youth Project - delivered in partnership with Bready & District Ulster Scots Association - for two years. The funding will support 19 current participants to enrol in education and employability activities and enable a new cohort of 20 young people to take part in personalised activities aimed at improving life prospects and roles within their communities. In Inishowen, £165,960 has been allocated to Newtowncunningham Community Outreach Project for a two-years cross-border and cross-community project that will facilitate peace-building activities in the village and the development of an inclusive model of engagement between the two larger traditions and minority communities. Tuesday's announcement that Marvel Entertainment’s comic book line is getting a “Fresh Start” in May, with a line wide relaunch planned to begin rolling out that month, might sound familiar to anyone who remembers the similar Marvel Legacy relaunch last year.
