A Small Light , National Geographic’s limited series that depicts the Dutch woman who risked her life to shelter Anne Frank’s family from the Nazis, steers clear of pointing any fingers at the person (or people) who betrayed the family. The project from Grey’s Anatomy alums Joan Rater and Tony Phelan follows Miep Gies (Bel Powley), who agreed to hide her boss Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) and his family during World War I. “Miep always said we are never going to know [who betrayed them],” Rater told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Tour. “I’ll read one account and think, they did it , and then I’ll read a separate one and think, they did it. Mariachi High School Competition Drama Series In The Works From Fremantle
EXCLUSIVE : It’s a big week for high school mariachi bands. Fremantle is developing a drama series set in the world of competitive mariachi bands in the United States. It comes as Going Varsity in Mariachi , a documentary directed by Sam Osborn and Alejandra Vasquez stars a talented group of students at Edinburg North High School in South Texas who compete for the title of the state’s best mariachi band, is hitting the Sundance Film Festival. Written and directed by Nida Manzoor, Polite Society stars Priya Kansara ( Bridgerton ), Ritu Arya ( Umbrella Academy ) and Nimra Bucha ( Disney+ Ms. Marvel ). The Focus Features movie had its world premiere Friday in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival. The movie begins with Ria (Kansara), a Pakistani teenager in a karate class. She’s a purple belt who is serious about honing her skills to become a stunt woman. A 1995 USC graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts and frequent on-campus speaker, Feige will give the keynote address at the ceremony on May 12. “I’m so excited Kevin Feige is our commencement speaker.
