What could be better than multiple Avengers: Infinity War movies? Why, multiple Avengers video games, of course! Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced that they’re teaming up for a “multi-year, multi-game” partnership starting with The Avengers project. If you’ll recall, Square Enix is the same company behind Final Fantasy XV, Deux Ex: Mankind Divided, Laura Croft and more. I actually had the chance to demo those games ahead of New York Comic Con, which you can watch here. The Avengers project, specifically, will be developed by Crystal Dynamics, best known for their work on the Tomb Raider series, alongside Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal. “The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise,” a statement for the game read. “Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce … [Read more...] about Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix Are Teaming Up for Multiple Avengers Video Games

I was in for a bit of a shock when I opened my February 2016 issue of Elle magazine this month. I flipped through the first few pages, which are always ads, right to a picture of a familiar face: stoic, pink haired, hand shot out decisively with small black clutch hanging off her fingertips. She was wearing a candy pink biker jacket, but this was no ordinary model: It was Lighting from Final Fantasy XIII (and its many sequels). A video game character modeling for a major fashion house, Louis Vuitton—and not just modeling, but headlining the campaign: Her ad was the largest of three, with the real human models coming after her. Of course I had heard about the collaboration earlier in January when it was announced, but somehow I had not expected to see it in a fashion magazine—certainly not a Western magazine—and yet there she was. When this collaboration was first announced, naturally, I had a lot of thoughts. The first was, “Louis Vuitton? Really? That seems like … [Read more...] about Pixelthreads: What’s the Deal With Final Fantasy and Louis Vuitton?
When Final Fantasy XIII was announced, it was announced as part of a series of games set in the same universe, dubbed Fabula Nova Crystallis. Included in that series was FFXIII, a mobile game turned PSP game now called Final Fantasy Type-O, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Unveiled at E3 way back in 2006, FFvsXIII has been in development for around seven years now. It has basically become vaporware, so much so that the much maligned Final Fantasy XIII already had a direct sequel while FFvsXIII doesn’t even have a demo. E3 is coming up next week, starting June 5, and thanks to what seems to be a leak, there are rumblings that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be shown off in its new form as a full-fledged Final Fantasy XV. Check out the video leak below. If the above video is to be believed, it comes from Square Enix’s pre-E3 event held on May 30. The shaky footage shows Noctis, the main character from Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but ends with a clear branding of Final … [Read more...] about Pre-E3 Leak Shows Final Fantasy Versus XIII Upgraded to Final Fantasy XV
If you don’t already own it, or have only watched your friends play it because you opted to get a Nintendo 64 so you could play Zelda, and also didn’t snatch up the digital versions available on the PS3 and PSP, the beloved Final Fantasy VII is headed for a PC re-release sometime soon. Square Enix hasn’t given an exact date, but they have divulged where you can snag the re-release, and what extra features it’ll boast. No, it’s not coming to Steam. Sorry. Square has announced that the re-release will be made exclusively available on its own Square Enix Store. However, that unfortunate news comes with the news that the re-release will have some new features not found in any version of FFVII. The re-release will feature 36 achievements, a character booster that seems to be some sort of stat editor to allow for easier play, and the hilariously titled cloud saves, which act as standard saves on the cloud, but you know, cloud, huh huh.If you already own the … [Read more...] about Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy VII to Come to PC (Again)
