‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ Shrinks A Tick To $76M Opening, But Still 33% Bigger Than Original – Sunday Final
6th Writethru, Sunday: Disney is seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp landing near the lower end of its tracking with an estimated $76M which is $500K shy of where rivals see it after a $23.6M Saturday that’s 31% down from Friday, a sharper decline than many were expecting which was around -15%. This now marks a 33% improvement upon the first Ant-Man ‘s $57.2M opening, which turned around a 3.1x for a $180M final domestic. The multiple on Ant-Man and the Wasp is forecasted to be lower at 2.75x, but that will still get the super insects over $200M stateside. Even though the sequel is coming in lower than what many were anticipating yesterday, it’s still a win for Disney in that they expanded the superheroes’ commercial prospects, granted not to lofty results. Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’ Lands China Release During July Blackout
Universal / Legendary ’s summer action thriller Skyscraper has secured a July 20 China release date, significantly opening in the throes of the (unofficial) annual blackout on Hollywood fare. That the film is backed by the Wanda-owned Legendary and takes place in Hong Kong likely were factors working in the Dwayne Johnson -starrer’s favor. Johnson is a big draw in the Middle Kingdom, and here he plays a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran who now assesses security for skyscrapers. While on assignment at Hong Kong’s The Pearl, a 244-floor vertical city with every safety and security challenge, he’s framed when bad guys target the building. Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 Sets Digital Premiere On Prime Video
Actor Tiger Shroff's actioner Heropanti 2 will be available for streaming on Prime Video from May 27, the streamer announced on Wednesday. Directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film released theatrically in April and received mixed reviews from the critics. The film, a sequel to the 2014 actioner, also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tara Sutaria. Shroff described Heropanti 2 as a "complete entertainer" and said he is happy that it'll have its digital premiere on Prime Video. When Mary Daily, Paramount President of International Theatrical Marketing, went to toss off to President of International Theatrical Distribution Mark Viane early on, there appeared to be a missed cue. With international rollout beginning on July 25 and domestic going July 27, cast and crew were on hand for last night’s world premiere in Paris. On a perfect evening in the capital, and with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop, star Tom Cruise declared the movie a “love letter” to the City of Light.
