Disney and Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin will feature two new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Academy Award-winning songwriters behind The Greatest Showman and La La Land. Walt Disney Studios has had a great deal of success in recent years with their live-action adaptations of feature films from their animated classics catalogue, including Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Jungle Book. She also made headlines in 2012 for flipping the bird at the camera while performing for the Super Bowl's half-time show, invoking the legal wrath of the NFL.This fractured biographical tribute draws on material spanning many years, including footage shot by Arulpragasam herself. Clearly, it's assembled with deep affection by producer-director Steve Loveridge, who has known Arulpragasam since they both attended London's Central Saint Martins School of Art together in the mid-'90s. Nevertheless, perhaps … [Read more...] about ‘Matangi/Maya/M.I.A.’: Film Review | Sundance 2018
Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial period epic Padmavat has been granted a censor certificate and secured a release date on January 25.Viacom18 Motion Pictures will release the film in India, while Paramount Pictures International is handling the international release. The film, based on an epic poem about India’s Rajput kings, was originally scheduled to open globally on December 1, 2017. However, Viacom18 delayed the release when the religious controversy that had plagued the film since it was in production started to escalate.Local religious groups, aligned with a warrior caste that traces its lineage back to the Rajput kings, claimed the film contained scenes that hurt religious and national sentiments.
