Marvel Studios has unveiled four new character posters for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier , its upcoming six-episode series at Disney+ The posters (see below) feature Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, Daniel Brühl as Zemo, and Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter. The series, which revolves around Captain America super friends, will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning March 19. In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame , team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. The series is directed by Kari Skogland; Malcolm Spellman is head writer. Disney+ also is airing Legends, a docuseries that looks at the journeys of favorite Marvel characters. EXCLUSIVE: Brazil’s Fantaspoa Fantastic Film Festival, which is the largest genre event in South America, has locked a partnership with local streaming service Darkflix to allow it to host its 16th edition online, and free for local audiences. The 2020 edition of the fest was originally scheduled to take place in May this year, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. As the virus is far from being contained in Brazil (the country now has both the second-highest number of infections and deaths in the world), organizers have ultimately decided that a physical edition will not be possible this year, and instead will pivot online. Running July 24 – August 2, Fantaspoa will see Darkflix host a number of Latin American premieres of new genre films, and will feature a total of 110 features and shorts from 35 countries. Each title will have a cap of 5,000 viewers and will be geo-blocked for viewers in Brazil. With Easter weekend less than a month away, Sony announced today that it will be opening the Evan Spiliotopoulos’ Screen Gems supernatural PG-13 horror movie The Unholy on April 2. The feature based on the James Herbert novel Shrine joins Warner Bros/Legendary’s theatrical release of Godzilla vs. Kong which is opening on Wednesday, March 31 (and also hitting HBO Max simultaneously) as the big wide releases for the holiday weekend. That period has traditionally been a robust time at the B.O. given how the frame coincides with spring break. During great pre-pandemic box office times, Warner Bros’ Batman v. Superman is the record B.O. opener for Easter weekend with $181M domestic, while Universal’s Furious 7 is second with $161.2M. Last week, box office analysts started tracking Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , with the early projections claiming that this highly-anticipated superhero adventure will take in approximately $154 million during its opening weekend in late March. While we still have to wait several weeks to see if those projections will hold up, Warner Entertainment Japan has released an international trailer, which doesn't include any new footage but offers a brief refresher course on this blockbuster-to-be, in case it's been awhile since you've seen the previous trailers. It isn't known if the studio plans on releasing any new footage between now and the March 25 release date. Leon Gast , the veteran filmmaker who won a Documentary Feature Oscar for helming the 1996 “Rumble in the Jungle” pic When We Were Kings , died Monday. He was 85. The news was confirmed by the Woodstock Film Festival, of which Gast was a founding advisory board member and a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award honoree. Gast also won a Spirit Award, a Sundance Special Jury prize and a DGA Award nomination for When We Were Kings, which he also produced and edited. It told the fascinating story about the 1974 heavyweight title fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman held in Kinshasa, Zaire. The filmmaker later produced and directed The Trials of Muhammad Ali (2013), which aired the following year on PBS as under the Independent Lens banner . Gast won a News & Documentary Emmy and an International Documentary Association Award for that project.
