The White Stripes have unearthed their 2001 performance of “Hotel Yorba” from Later…with Jools Holland to mark the U.K. physical release of the band’s Greatest Hits collection. Earlier this month, Meg and Jack White dug up “Fell in Love With a Girl” and “Let’s Shake Hands” from the same November 9th, 2001 episode — the duo’s first-ever British TV appearance — and Friday, they unveiled the third song from that performance, a ferocious rendition of White Blood Cells ’ “Hotel Yorba.” In addition to the Jools Holland appearances, the White Stripes also recently uploaded two classic SNL appearances , a 90-minute yule log video , and their entire 2005 From the Basement concert — originally broadcasted in 2007 — to celebrate the release of Greatest Hits , the long-dormant duo’s first best-of collection that was released in December 2020. “In an era of streaming where the idea of a ‘Greatest Hits’ album may seem irrelevant — that an act’s most streamed songs … [Read more...] about White Stripes Dig Up 2001 ‘Hotel Yorba’ Performance From ‘Jools Holland’

Check Out Music From the Underground – Literally – At The Caverns
Throughout history, humans have relied on music to carry stories and bring people together. So Rolling Stone and Can-Am are embarking on a road trip to spotlight the artists, venues, and recording studios keeping the storytelling legacy alive today. We’re calling the project Common Tread. Join us as we explore the people and places that bridge the divide between music’s past and future. Fourteen years ago Todd Mayo took his first cave tour. Noname Is One of the Best Rappers Alive
Before the summer 2016 release of Telefone , the debut album that launched her to a quiet kind of stardom, Noname considered quitting rap. “I used to care-give, so I probably would’ve went back to doing that,” she says. “Maybe would’ve got my nursing degree, and just become a nurse. That was the only other thing that I enjoyed doing.” Music, at that point, wasn’t paying the bills: “I was only able to pay my rent through doing little one-off college shows and maybe a feature for $300 here and there,” she adds. “I was in the financial in-between of, ‘Should I continue to try to pursue this, or should I just get a job?'” One of those one-off features, though, was for Chance The Rapper, her Chicago compatriot, on his breakout album Acid Rap in 2013. It’s a scene-stealing performance on a scene-defining full-length and, not long after, people were waiting for more from the quietly confident, rhythmically daring rapper. ‘Tom and Jerry’: Cat v. Mouse: Dawn of Justice
Once upon a time, there was a cat. His name was Tom. Some folks at an animation studio thought it’d be a good idea to pair him with a mouse. After an exhaustive search on several continents, they found a young, aspiring rodential star named Jerry. Thanks to centuries of biological history, one was intent on killing the other, but even the suits had to admit: These two had crazy chemistry together. After a trial-run short in the early 1940s was met was raves, they were signed to a exclusive contract. For almost two decades, they created a double act that made them both household names. Fame, fortune, and Oscars (seven of them) followed. So did scandal — affairs with starlets and each other’s spouses, run-ins with the law, being called before the House Un-American Activities Committee, a nasty addiction to pain pills and catnip — and, eventually, a mutual sense of acrimony. But as with so many comic duos from the mid-20th century, Tom & Jerry knew that their whole was greater than … [Read more...] about ‘Tom and Jerry’: Cat v. Mouse: Dawn of Justice
