Weekend Update tackled the House’s late-night passing of the Covid relief package as well as CPAC, the Frasier revival and the new Potato Head on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live . “Just like me when I’m drunk, Congress decided to spend a lot of money at 2:30 in the morning. They passed a $1.9 trillion spending bill, and Republicans are calling it ‘a liberal wishlist,'” co-anchor Colin Jost said. “I don’t know, I think a liberal wishlist would be avocado toast with Chrissy Teigen, free college for pets, and a hip-hop musical about Anderson Cooper starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.” However, one of the key components of the stimulus bill — a $15 minimum wage — did not make the cut , much to the delight of Senators Lindsey Graham and John Thune, the latter of whom boasted about earning $6 an hour at a restaurant as a “kid” 40 years and lots of inflation ago. The media covering the upcoming trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin ’s role in the death of George Floyd will have some new competition from messengers hired by the Minneapolis government. A team of social media influencers will be enlisted by the Minneapolis City Council to send “approved messages” during the upcoming trial, according to reports. The city plans to pay six influencers $2,000 each to disseminate the city’s views, Fox News said . The plan was approved Friday by the council. “The goal is to increase access to information to communities that do not typically follow mainstream news sources or city communications channels and/or who do not consume information in English,” the council said in a statement, WCCO-TV reported . “It’s also an opportunity to create more two-way communication between the city and communities.” The city council said it is targeting social media users with large followings. In a cut for time sketch from last night’s Saturday Night Live , a couple of interior designers (Nick Jonas, Heidi Gardner) renovate the home of two bachelors (Kyle Mooney, Mikey Day). The result is Bachelor Home Makeover , where the host turns “drab homes into fab pads.” The smug host touches on the perfect layout for two guys who are separated from their spouses and choose to live together while they figure out the rest of their lives. Of course, the necessities of life are covered — a gaming couch, a special toilet and a shelf where various tchotchkes can accumulate. Saturday Night Live ‘s Feb. 27 telecast, featuring Nick Jonas as host and musical guest, drew a 4.1 rating household Live+Same Day rating in the 44 metered local markets and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with local people meters. That was down a tenth in households and 18-49 from last week’s show, hosted by Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page with musical guest Bad Bunny, and matching the fast-national results for the Feb. 13 episode hosted by Regina King with musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff. After a hiatus, Saturday Night Live will return to live shows on March 27 with alumna Maya Rudolph as host and rapper Jack Harlow as musical guest. For the first time in its history, SNL is #1 among all comedies on broadcast and cable in 18-49 and total viewers (L+7) this season.
