Google Promises To Stop Tracking Your Browsing History To Sell Ads

· March 3, 2021 ·

Google Wednesday addressed the hot-button issue of consumer privacy, explicitly promising not to track peoples’ browsing history in order to feed them ads. It said Chrome will offer a first iteration of new controls in April. “People shouldn’t have to accept being tracked across the web in order to get the benefits of relevant advertising. And advertisers don’t need to track individual consumers across the web to get the performance benefits of digital advertising,” wrote David Temkin, Google’s director of Product Management, Ads Privacy and Trust, in a company blog post called “Charting a course towards a more privacy-first web.” He cited a study by the Pew Research Center that 72% of people feel that almost all of what they do online is being tracked by advertisers, tech firms or other companies, and 81% say the potential risks they face from data collection outweigh the benefits. Disney To Close Kids Channels In The UK Following Launch Of Disney+

· June 25, 2020 ·

Disney is closing its kids channels in the UK after launching Disney+ and failing to agree on new carriage deals with pay-TV platforms Sky and Virgin Media . Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior will be taken off air at the end of September, though Disney’s other brands, including Nat Geo and Fox, will continue to broadcast on linear television. A spokesman said: “From October 1st, Disney+ will become the exclusive home for content from Disney Channel, DisneyXD and Disney Junior in the UK.” He added that the “Walt Disney Company remains committed to our kids channels business,” and that the company plans to “execute distribution agreements for Disney channels in many markets where Disney+ is also available.” The news does, however, mark a significant moment for the company, which appears to be increasingly focusing its efforts on streaming at the expense of traditional television. It also follows the announcement that David Levine, Disney’s vice … [Read more...] about Disney To Close Kids Channels In The UK Following Launch Of Disney+

‘A Cop Movie’ (‘Una película de policías’): Film Review | Berlin 2021

· March 3, 2021 ·

Mexican filmmaker's Alonso Ruizpalacios third feature, a Netflix original, premiered in competition online at the Berlin Film Festival. Despite its simple title, Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios’ latest feature is far from a simple shoot-'em-up cop movie. It’s more like a cop movie written by Jacques Derrida, directed with nods to Wes Anderson and Jean-Luc Godard and then remixed by Abbas Kiarostami in its efforts to tear down the fourth wall. Which is to say that this Berlinale competition premiere is not exactly a commercial venture, nor does it resemble the kinds of policiers that Netflix, which will release the film online, usually places at the top of your viewing queue. But it’s nonetheless an intriguing, completely deconstructed look at what it takes to both be a cop and to play one, especially in a place where cops are often regarded as criminals themselves. Filled with style and wit, though lacking a narrative backbone to lure big audiences, this meta-docu-fiction … [Read more...] about ‘A Cop Movie’ (‘Una película de policías’): Film Review | Berlin 2021

Zack Snyder to Receive First-Ever Valiant Award from Hollywood Critics Association

· March 3, 2021 ·

Zack Snyder will be given the first-ever Valiant Award at the 4th Annual Hollywood Critics Association Film Awards ceremony on Friday. Snyder, who helmed Man of Steel , Batman v Superman , and the upcoming Zack Snyder's Justice League , is being honored for how he and his wife Deborah responded to the death of their daughter by suicide in March 2017. At the time, Zack Snyder stepped down from his directing duties on Justice League and the pair have since worked to raise money to help prevent others from experiencing the same pain. "As a fan of Synder's ever since Dawn of the Dead , I couldn't be happier that we will be acknowledging his visionary filmmaking and resilience to overcome any obstacles," HCA chair Scott Menzel said in a statement on Wednesday. Rolling Stone interview series Unknown Legends features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and veteran musicians who have toured and recorded alongside icons for years, if not decades. All are renowned in the business, but some are less well known to the general public. Here, these artists tell their complete stories, giving an up-close look at life on music’s A list. This edition features backup vocalist Dolette McDonald. When Dolette McDonald walked into the Talking Heads rehearsal space shortly before the launch of their 1980 Remain in Light world tour, she had no idea that her life was about to change forever. The band had hired her sight unseen as its first backup vocalist even though her main experience was singing in the church and on a handful of disco records.
