March 24, 2023 by deadline.com

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from the season finale of Apple TV+ ’s Dear Edward . Grief isn’t linear, and it doesn’t have a time limit either. While Season 1 of the Apple TV+ series Dear Edward — which tells the story of a grief group that brings together the loved ones of the passengers of a fatal plane crash — has come to an end, creator Jason Katims tells Deadline that he’s only scratched the surface of the stories that he wants to tell with these characters. The series has not officially been renewed for a second season, though Katims is waiting patiently for the call. “There’s 15 or 16 main characters in the show, but there are 180 people on that flight. And aside from those 180, there are all the people whose lives have been touched by that,” he said, adding: “There’s lots of stories left to tell here.” Katims is also the creator of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood , both of which are known for their large ensemble casts. So, it should … [Read more...] about ‘Dear Edward’ Creator Jason Katims Talks Finale Episode & Plans For Potential Season 2

Gladys Knight Tapped to Sing National Anthem at 2021 NBA All-Star Game

February 24, 2021 by www.tmz.com

TMZ.com The 2021 NBA All-Star Game is in Atlanta -- so it's only fitting organizers booked the woman behind "Midnight Train to Georgia" to sing the national anthem! The NBA announced the legendary Gladys Knight will do the honors of singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the State Farm Arena on March 7, as part of a tribute to HBCUs [historically black colleges and universities]. In fact, the NBA notes Knight graduated from Shaw University in North Carolina -- one of the oldest HBCUs in the country. Knight has experience singing the anthem at high-profile events -- remember when she crushed it at the Super Bowl in 2019?! As for the NBA All-Star Game, entertainment will also include an original rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” -- known as the Black National Anthem -- to be performed by the Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society Choir. "The rendition will honor NAACP leader and Black national anthem songwriter James Weldon Johnson, who … [Read more...] about Gladys Knight Tapped to Sing National Anthem at 2021 NBA All-Star Game

NBC Renewal Status Report: One Chicago, ‘Law & Order’ Franchise, ‘Lopez vs. Lopez’, ‘American Auto’ & More

March 24, 2023 by deadline.com

Second in a series on broadcast network series renewals. Reboots have been hot on NBC this season, with the two freshman follow-ups to classic TV series, drama Quantum Leap and comedy Night Court , both already picked up for a second season. For the first time in years, NBC faces renewals of its four top-rated dramas: Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise and Law & Order: SVU , whose three-season pickups all are coming to an end. I hear negotiations already are underway, and the goal again is to secure multi-season renewals for all four shows. That is considered attainable as the biggest obstacle for long-running hit shows usually is cost, and Wolf is known for keeping his productions on tight budgets. That sometimes is reflected into how long actors stay on his procedurals, with cast turnovers used as both a way to keep shows fresh creatively and keep costs in check. ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’: Riley Keough & Series Creators On Crafting Final Episodes Around The Band’s Last Performance

March 24, 2023 by deadline.com

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from the finale of Prime Video ’s Daisy Jones & The Six. Daisy Jones & The Six have taken their final bow. The curtains closed on the Prime Video series Friday with the release of the final two episodes. They are two of the series’ most ambitious episodes, with the finale weaving together the band’s last performance and what went down to propelled them to the point of no return. Episode 9 begins on a tense note, as Daisy ( Riley Keough ) wakes up from her drug overdose with her husband Nicky by her side. But, of course, she remembers that Nicky wasn’t actually there for her in her time of need. She storms over to Billy’s (Sam Claflin) room to demand he tell her why Nicky wasn’t there to help her. While we don’t see exactly what Billy says, we can only assume he told her the ugly truth, since she leaves his room with rage in her eyes as she kicks Nicky to the curb. “It was a really kind of intense moment,” … [Read more...] about ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’: Riley Keough & Series Creators On Crafting Final Episodes Around The Band’s Last Performance

Gabriel Basso made his debut as FBI Agent Peter Sutherland this week in Netflix ‘s political drama The Night Agent , from creator Shawn Ryan. SPOILER ALERT: This story contains plot points from the season premiere of Yellowjackets on Showtime. Fans of Yellowjackets finally got to meet the adult version of Lottie Matthews in the season 2 premiere: she’s now a woo-woo spiritual leader who enjoys expensive things while burying live people in the name of good health. Namaste, suckas! Here, Simone Kessell ( Obi-Wan Kenobi) talks about Lottie’s crazy trajectory, along with whether the girl who served as a leader to her Yellowjackets teammates while they were marooned in the mountains really believes all that new age-y stuff as an adult. DEADLINE What an incredible 24 hours for you. I just saw you kicking ass in the premiere episode of Netflix’s The Night Agent . I didn’t realize you were in that.
