EXCLUSIVE : Hillsong , the church that has had celebrity worshippers including Justin Bieber, Kevin Durant, and Selena Gomez, has been mired in scandal after its New York pastor Carl Lentz admitted an extramarital affair last year. The church is now to be the subject of a limited documentary series from Queer Eye producer Scout Productions and Vanity Fair Studios. It comes hot on the heels of an expose, published in Vanity Fair this morning, that includes new reporting on allegations of sexual assault, bullying, and the double standards to which congregants of color and those who identify as queer were at times held. The investigation – American Pastoral – by Vanity Fair contributing editor Alex French and staff writer Dan Adler looks into the circumstances around Lentz’s firing and a culture at the church that had in many ways enabled him. Why 24kGoldn Sees Himself as the Music Industry’s Steve Jobs
The Zoom interview has just begun when 24kGoldn , more or less unprompted, calls himself “the Steve Jobs of the music industry right now.” It’s the kind of braggadocious claim that only a 20-year-old with one of the biggest songs of the past year can say without a hint of irony. But the fast-rising, genre-blending rapper has good reason to feel so confident. Goldn, whose real name is Golden Landis Von Jones, is the most successful artist to develop a musical career on TikTok since Lil Nas X, and one of the few to have made viral hits from the app more than once. He wasn’t discovered on TikTok, he notes — his label, RECORDS , signed him in 2019 — but it’s been his de facto platform. He’s released three RIAA-certified singles that shot to fame there, including his chart-topping hit “Mood” featuring Iann Dior, which became one of the biggest hits of 2020, spending the past 28 weeks on Rolling Stone’s 100 Songs Chart, hitting Number One in two non-consecutive weeks. … [Read more...] about Why 24kGoldn Sees Himself as the Music Industry’s Steve Jobs
Jaden Smith Hits the Ocean in Dreamy ‘Photograph’ Video
Jaden Smith swims and lazes on the beach in the new video for “Photograph.” Shot in New Providence, Bahamas, and directed by Smith himself, the video features scenes of Smith staring at the pink sunset, closing his eyes on a float, swimming through the current, and lying facedown in the sand. He floats down to the ocean floor fully clothed, clutching a Polaroid. “Thought I might write a song,” he sings. “Hoped you might sing along.” Last fall, Smith released “ I’m Ready, ” featured on the PlayStation video game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales . In August 2020, he dropped CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3 , a 17-track album that included his quarantine track “Cabin Fever,” “Falling for You” featuring Justin Bieber, and “Endless Summer” with Raury. “ CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3 is a labor of love,” Smith said of the record. “It is a psychedelic movement of peace. It is the end of multiple eras for me as an artist, and I am so excited to share it with the world. Billie Eilish Teases New Album Made in Quarantine on ‘Colbert’
Billie Eilish teased her new album in an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show Tuesday, February 23rd. The singer said the Covid-19 quarantine marked the first extended period of time off she’d had in four years, and she took that opportunity to make an album. “I don’t think I would’ve made the same album, or even the album at all, if it weren’t for Covid,” she said. “That doesn’t mean it’s about Covid at all, it’s just that, when things are different in your life, you’re different. That’s just how it is. So, I have to thank Covid for that, and that’s about it.” Later in the interview, Colbert asked if Eilish unleashed her voice and really belted on the new project, and the singer laughed and replied, “There’s a couple of moments on this album where I pull some tricks out. It’s really just about what I feel like sounds good.” Eilish also spoke about her upcoming documentary, The World’s a Little Blurry , and the strange experience of living with cameras on her … [Read more...] about Billie Eilish Teases New Album Made in Quarantine on ‘Colbert’
