"We're excited to officially confirm that production on 'Stranger Things 4' is now underway - and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper," the Duffers said last February. "Although it's not all good news for our 'American'; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human...and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything..." … [Read more...] about Stranger Things Season 4 Is the Scariest Yet Warns an Excited Gaten Matarazzo

Marty Baron Announces Plans To Retire As Executive Editor Of The Washington Post
I have worked in journalism without stop for nearly 45 years, leading magnificent news staffs in Miami, then Boston and now Washington, D.C., for 21. The stories over those years were epic: the Bush-Gore race in 2000 and the Supreme Court ruling that blocked a Florida recount; the election of the country’s first Black president; last year’s tense, barrier-breaking presidential election, followed by a horrifying attack on the Capitol and American democracy itself; the impeachment, twice, of a president, with one trial so far; the Elián Gonzalez saga in Miami; the deadly terrorism of 9/11; nearly two decades of war in Afghanistan and Iraq; the Catholic Church’s cover-up of sexual abuse by clergy; the Snowden leaks and NSA surveillance; a worldwide pandemic; the Great Recession and last year’s economic collapse; the largest social-justice protests since the civil rights movement; devastating natural disasters; one grim mass shooting after the next; … [Read more...] about Marty Baron Announces Plans To Retire As Executive Editor Of The Washington Post
Netflix’s ‘Bling Empire’ Is a Celebration of Culture — Clad in Couture
The Taiwanese-American says she’s proud of the way the show portrays the cast, adding that the fashion and fights are really just a front for deeper conversations. “I think that while the show leads with glitz and glamor, and that is maybe the clickbait or hook, it really retains [the audience] with heart and laughter,” says Chiu, who also serves as a producer on the series. “I’ve taken a couple of hits, as you can see on the show [and] it certainly pushed my personality in a way that, you know, creates more entertainment value, but it was both a necessary evil and also a fun and wild adventure for a greater purpose. I wanted to incorporate more voices and faces that represent Asian perspectives, values, morals, traditions [and] pressures into pop culture, and into the pop-culture discussion in America.” … [Read more...] about Netflix’s ‘Bling Empire’ Is a Celebration of Culture — Clad in Couture
Inside ‘The Show,’ Blackpink’s First-Ever Livestream Concert
The choice to partner with YouTube, even amid an abundance of livestreaming platforms, was a no-brainer to the band. For one, YouTube is used to handling immense online traffic. “We are confident in our capability to host millions of concurrent viewers at one time,” Vivien Lewit, Global Head of Artist Relations at YouTube, said during a separate conversation with Rolling Stone in January. This is the first time YouTube’s music team has partnered with an artist on a livestream through channel memberships — but the company has plenty of experience in the livestreaming sector and has spent the last year upgrading the quality of its live audio and visuals, and introducing extra capabilities like tipping. … [Read more...] about Inside ‘The Show,’ Blackpink’s First-Ever Livestream Concert
2ND UPDATE: ‘Big Bang Theory’ Sets $2M-Per-Episode Syndie Record: TBS ($1.5+M) And Fox Broadcast Stations ($500+K)
The Fox-owned stations have acquired the exclusive off-network broadcast television rights in the following 10 markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, DC, Houston, Phoenix, Miami Minneapolis, Orlando and Baltimore. I heard that the other broadcast bidder, Tribune, which plays the other big Chuck Lorre Productions’ sitcom Two and a Half Men along with FX, lost the fierce bidding war for Big Bang Theory. And, in a sour grapes move, Tribune immediately spun the trades that it had “passed” on the top-rated series. Which isn’t true. “Tribune did not pass and did not drop out,” one of my insiders confirms. Off-network bids for Big Bang Theory were due at Warner Bros at 9 AM PT on May 11th. Bidders knew that, “Holy shit, this was something special,” an insider told me. “The marketplace kept getting more and more excited about it.” And why not since 2009-2010 ratings … [Read more...] about 2ND UPDATE: ‘Big Bang Theory’ Sets $2M-Per-Episode Syndie Record: TBS ($1.5+M) And Fox Broadcast Stations ($500+K)
