Warning: This podcast post-mortem contains spoilers about tonight’s Westworld season 4 finale “ Que Será, Será” We are a long, long way from the park. Remember, the western town from season one? The season 4 finale of HBO’s Westworld wrapped up tonight after a melee between humans and hosts and more questions about who is alive and who’s in the virtual Valley of the Beyond. On a special Crew Call tonight we talk with Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy to sort it all out. You can listen to our conversation here: Season 4 was set seven years after season 3’s revolution where we saw Maeve (Thandiwe Newton), Caleb (Aaron Paul) and a drained Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) take out the humungous, predictive supercomputer Rehoboam. Well, there was more revolution in last Sunday’s episode and in tonight’s with bodies of humans and hosts lying about. Says Joys, “Humans and hosts, they’re just going to destroy themselves. Life on Earth as we know it is over.” Host … [Read more...] about ‘Westworld’ Co-Creator Lisa Joy On Tonight’s Season 4 Finale Host Revolution, Who’s Really Dead & Season 5 – Crew Call Podcast

‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Shows Heat For A24 – Specialty Box Office
A24 ’s Bodies Bodies Bodies hit theaters with the highest per-screen average this weekend in a limited opening, and the second best of the year. That record was set last spring with Everything Everywhere All at Once as this indie distributor piles up successes. Halina Reijn’s Gen-Z whodunnit comedy grossed $226,526 on six screens in NY and LA for a PSA of $37,754. Everything Everywhere opened to over half a million dollars on 10 screens in NYC, LA and San Francisco in late March for a PSA of $50,965, a pre-Covid kind of number. Bodies , a fresh take on the murder mystery in a stormy house party game gone awry, with a young ensemble cast of Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Pete Davidson, Rachel Sennott and Lee Pace, expands to about 1,200 screens next weekend. The film, which premiered at SXSW, had sellouts on both coasts where it played NYC’s Lincoln Square, Union Square, Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn, and LA’s AMC Century City, Grove and Burbank. ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Is a Crime Against Slasher Flicks
There are violent crimes committed in A24’s disappointing new slasher, Bodies Bodies Bodies , including a machete to the neck and a tumble down the stairs like something out of HBO’s The Staircase . But none of this bloodletting is as grievous as the crime committed by the movie itself, which takes a pair of actresses that gave two of the funnier comic turns in recent memory — Rachel Sennott of Shiva Baby and Maria Bakalova of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm — and whittles almost all of their magic down to nothing. By the end of the movie, the snap and crackle of their wit has somehow been deadened to a pile of ash. All that’s left are the bones of a movie that’s going through an identity crisis, and a good idea gone to waste. Bodies Bodies Bodies , directed Halina Reijn, takes a handful of familiar tropes — a friend getaway (replace the cabin in the woods with the richest friend’s empty house), a drinking game gone wrong, a storm that knocks the power out, … [Read more...] about ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Is a Crime Against Slasher Flicks
