For the first time in its history, the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live in cinemas across the UK. The European Broadcasting Union, who runs the event, has confirmed the grand final of this year’s Contest – to take place in the northern UK city of Liverpool on May 13th – will be beamed into cinemas, where they also encourage fancy dress and singalongs. After many years of Brits slighting the event, which they haven’t won since 1997, Eurovision has caught the imagination in the UK this year, following the British entry Sam Ryder’s second place last year. Ukraine won, but the UK will be hosting in its place, while the war continues in the eastern European country. Tickets for seats in the Liverpool arena – for the grand-final plus two semi-finals and rehearsals – were sold out within 40 minutes of going on sale. A singer has apologised for “butchering” the British national anthem at an England football match on Thursday evening. Italian-American singer Ellynora had been asked to perform God Save the King before the kick-off of the European Championship qualifier match in Napoli. However, she appeared to have trouble with the song, singing off-key, repeating the first line twice and fiddling with her earpiece. Måneskin Announce First Australian Tour
Eurovision Song Contest winners Måneskin have added their first Australian headline shows to an already stacked international schedule. The Italian band will play four shows in a whirlwind visit later this year, kicking off the Australian leg in Brisbane on Monday, 20th November and moving through Sydney and Melbourne before finishing up in Adelaide on Saturday, 25th November. “We can’t wait to come to Australia, it will be the first time for all of us so we’re pretty much curious about everything, especially the crowd,” the band said in a statement. “It feels crazy to finally be able to meet our fans there!” The extensive world tour celebrates the band’s third album RUSH!, which was released in January to somewhat mixed critical reviews. Cannes & TikTok Have Renewed Their Partnership, But Could That Change Amid The Crackdown On The App?
The Cannes Film Festival has renewed its short film competition partnership with TikTok for a second year in a move that is likely to come under scrutiny amid the global debate over the platform’s privacy and data security record. Delegate General Thierry Frémaux said in an interview with Variety on Monday that the festival was “happy” with the partnership and “the human relationship” it had forged with TikTok, despite a bumpy first edition of the competitio n . His comments come three days after France joined a growing list of countries banning the app on government-issued devices due to security concerns, alongside the U.S., UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Canada.
