March 22, 2023 by deadline.com

EXCLUSIVE: A backpacker’s battle to escape the locked boot of a car and regain her memory is to be the plot of Amazon Prime Video ’s latest German movie. In high-octane thriller Trunk (working title), Sina Martens ( The Perfumier, Tatort) will play Malina, who wakes up disoriented to discover to her horror that she is missing more than her memory. With her mobile phone as her only link to the outside world, she wages a desperate battle for survival as the vehicle races inexorably towards a terrible mystery. Even if she makes it – she will never be the same. The movie has echoes of claustrophobic single-location action features such as Ryan Reynolds’ Buried and is being produced by German indie Outside the Club. Marc Schießer is writing, directing and producing and Tobias Lohf will also produce. Amazon Head of German Originals Philip Pratt said Trunk will “take viewers on a wild ride through all the emotions.” He told Deadline more movies “in this realm” could … [Read more...] about ‘Trunk’: Amazon Prime Video Greenlights High-Octane German Feature

Amazon Prime Video Exploring More Global Franchises In Same Vein As ‘Citadel’ – Series Mania

March 23, 2023 by deadline.com

Amazon Prime Video is exploring more global franchise opportunities following the success of the Russo Brothers’ Citadel. James Farrell , the streamer’s VP, International, told a Series Mania audience that it is “highly likely” his non-U.S. team will seek more Citadel- like universes across both scripted and unscripted. A Tomb Raider movie and TV series penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge are already reported to be in the works. “It’s such a cool way to take [subscribers] on a journey and no one has really done it before,” said Farrell. From the Russo’s AGBO, Midnight Radio, Cattleya and Amazon Studios, the spy thriller is airing as three versions from the U.S., India and Italy, starring the likes of Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The U.S. version drops next month. The idea was born from a conversation between Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke and the Russos, according to Farrell, who said they were discussing “what a global show looks like in the … [Read more...] about Amazon Prime Video Exploring More Global Franchises In Same Vein As ‘Citadel’ – Series Mania

Amazon Prime Video Confirms Newcastle United Doc

March 23, 2023 by deadline.com

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed its latest sports doc will follow Newcastle United , with Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story indie 72 Films producing with Lorton Entertainment . The as-yet-untitled series exploring the Saudi-owned club will not form part of Prime Video’s All or Nothing series, which has so far spotlighted Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. Cameras have been following Newcastle all season, one in which they are likely to finish higher in the Premier League than they have for years after they were acquired by a consortium including the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which attracted much controversy. They are chasing qualification for the Champion’s League and reached their first cup final for 24 years, which they lost to Manchester United. 72 Films, which also makes the All or Nothing docs, is partnering with Lorton, the producer behind Disney+’s upcoming Wagatha Christie doc. “We are thrilled to be working with Newcastle … [Read more...] about Amazon Prime Video Confirms Newcastle United Doc

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

The official trailer for Dead Ringers , Prime Video ’s upcoming psychological thriller limited series starring Rachel Weisz , has been delayed for a day due to the Nashville school shooting which left three children and three adults dead. Dead Ringers , a reimagining with a gender swap of David Cronenberg’s cult classic 1980s film, stars Weisz in the lead dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle. They are twin gynocologists who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront. Weisz also serves as an executive producer for the limited series, which is created, written, and executive produced by Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch ( Normal People , Succession ). The series’ ensemble cast includes Britne Oldford as Genevieve, Poppy Liu as Greta, Michael Chernus as Tom, … [Read more...] about ‘Dead Ringers’: Prime Video Delays Release Of Trailer Due To Nashville School Shooting

UK Government Publishes Long-Awaited Media Bill To Help Bring Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video Under Regulatory Framework

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

The UK government has published its long-awaited draft Media Bill to bring the U.S. streamers under its regulatory framework and help public broadcasters “embrace the digital age.” The bill marks the next step in long-planned legislation that, once passed, could see the likes of Netflix , Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video fined up to £250,000 ($308,000) or restricted in the UK entirely if they break rules around harmful material that have applied to the public broadcasters for decades. The White Paper that laid out plans for the bill in April 2022 had initially floated the idea that these streamers either be fined the £250,000 maximum or 5% of their local revenues, whichever was higher, but the latter option has been removed from today’s draft bill. Once passed, media regulator Ofcom will be given “more robust powers to investigate and take action to enforce standards if they consider it appropriate,” added the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). … [Read more...] about UK Government Publishes Long-Awaited Media Bill To Help Bring Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video Under Regulatory Framework

‘Daisy Jones & The Six’: Riley Keough & Series Creators On Crafting Final Episodes Around The Band’s Last Performance

March 24, 2023 by deadline.com

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from the finale of Prime Video ’s Daisy Jones & The Six. Daisy Jones & The Six have taken their final bow. The curtains closed on the Prime Video series Friday with the release of the final two episodes. They are two of the series’ most ambitious episodes, with the finale weaving together the band’s last performance and what went down to propelled them to the point of no return. ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ Going On Tour? Cast & Creators Weigh In

March 24, 2023 by deadline.com

With all this talk about the cast of Daisy Jones & The Six basically becoming a real-life rock band , it’s natural that there would be whispers about a possible tour. The good news? The cast and creators of the Prime Video series seem to be on board with the band hitting the road. “We’d love to,” Josh Whitehouse, who plays bassist Eddie Roundtree, told Deadline at SXSW. Sam Claflin and Sebastian Chacon agreed. “We’re all actors and we all have different schedules. We’re all on different sides of the planet. I don’t know how plausible it is, but the hope is there [and] the desire is there,” Claflin explained. “And there seems to be enough people that are asking for it to happen.” Creator Scott Neustadter told Deadline that those conversations have been happening, though nothing has been confirmed just yet. Echoing Claflin, he said that “scheduling is going to be our biggest hiccup.” Many of the actors have already dove head first into other projects, … [Read more...] about ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ Going On Tour?
