Willie Nelson will explore his many adventures with late drummer Paul English in his new book, Me and Paul: Untold Tales of a Fabled Friendship , set to be released Sept. 20 via Harper Horizon. A member of Nelson’s band since 1966, English was renowned for his tough, outlaw style and served as the group’s de facto bodyguard in addition to his drumming duties. He adopted a persona called “The Devil,” matching the name with an evil-looking goatee and wearing a cape. He earned a reputation for fist fights as well as getting his mates out of dangerous situations on the road. Nelson immortalized him in song with 1971’s “Me & Paul,” a travelogue of sorts that chronicled some memorable — and possibly illegal — mishaps in Laredo, Milwaukee, and Buffalo. English remained a regular member of Nelson’s band up until his 2020 death at the age of 87. “There’s something about my friendship with Paul that reminds me of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn,” Nelson said in a statement. “Tom was … [Read more...] about Willie Nelson Details His ‘Wild’ Friendship With Drummer Paul English in New Book

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect First Review Out! R Madhavan-Starrer Receives Positive Response
R Madhavan-starrer Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is all set to hit the theatres tomorrow, and we are here with the film's first review. The film is based on the life of scientist and aerospace engineer S Nambi Narayanan. Interestingly, the film marks directorial debut of R Madhavan, who also essays the role of the protagonist in the film. While sharing his review on the film, senior Journalist Subhash K Jha wrote, "Once in a while a film comes along to change lives. Tamil-Hindi star-actor R Madhavan's directorial debut is no ordinary bio-pic. It takes us far away from the glorification of gangsters and the hagiographic tone of biopics on politicians, to give us a revelatory eye-opening story of a scientist who dedicated his life to enhancing India's aerospace programme, only to be branded a spy." He further wrote, "Every moment of Nambi Narayanan's story will stay with you in the months and years to come. Great wrong was done to a great man. But at least one good … [Read more...] about Rocketry: The Nambi Effect First Review Out! R Madhavan-Starrer Receives Positive Response

As Packaging Comes To An End, Squabbles Over Grandfathered Projects Likely To Continue
It has been a long goodbye for packaging since the WGA and the major agencies’ new franchise agreements, signed in 2020-21 after an epic fight, included a “phase-in of packaging fee prohibition” period that ends tonight. But while for the WGA “it’s the end of new packages on guild-covered projects going forward,” per WGA West assistant executive director Ellen Stutzman, I hear that WME , CAA and UTA may not feel that way. Different interpretations of the language in the agreement could trigger dozens of arbitration proceedings, with studios stuck in the middle of potential disputes. After a 22-month standoff, the WGA’s campaign targeting what the guild referred to as “conflicted agency practices” of packaging and affiliated production come to a successful end in February 2021 when the last holdout, WME, signed a franchise agreement stipulating that an “agent’s right to negotiate packaging fees shall terminate on June 30, 2022,” while limiting agencies’ ownership in … [Read more...] about As Packaging Comes To An End, Squabbles Over Grandfathered Projects Likely To Continue

The End Of Packaging Fees: The WGA’s Historic Campaign To Reshape Talent Agency Business Takes Full Effect Today – Q&A
The WGA ’s historic reshaping of the talent agency business will take full effect at the end of business today, after which agency packaging fees will no longer be permitted under the guild’s franchise agreement. “The agency campaign was founded on the simple truth that agents are our fiduciaries,” said WGA West president Meredith Stiehm, who was one of the named plaintiffs in the guild’s long-running anti-trust lawsuit against the “Big 3” talent agencies. “The interests and priorities of agencies and their writer clients must be aligned. Our campaign had three main goals: end the collection of packaging fees, put a halt to the conflict of interest of agency-owned studios, and for the agencies to share information, which the WGA uses to fight late pay and free work. Thanks to the resolve and unity of the membership, we’ve achieved those goals. Today, as we mark the beginning of the end of packaging fees, we move forward with our agency partners to improve writers’ compensation … [Read more...] about The End Of Packaging Fees: The WGA’s Historic Campaign To Reshape Talent Agency Business Takes Full Effect Today – Q&A
