‘Raya And The Last Dragon’ Debuting To $8M As Pic Hits Disney+ & NYC Reopens: Why The Industry Is Greatly Concerned
Saturday AM Update: Updated with NYC B.O. data Even with three new wide releases at this weekend’s box office, and New York City finally reopening, numbers still aren’t at pre-pandemic levels, but there’s a lot of drama going on. Let’s start with Disney ’s theatrical day and date Disney+ release of animated pic Raya and the Last Dragon which looks to be leading the weekend with a studio-reported $2.5M Friday and an industry weekend estimate of $8.3M at 2,045 theaters. These numbers are slightly less than the $3M Friday and $9M-$10M we were hearing about, and they’re definitely less than the $14.1M that Warner Bros’ same day HBO Max release of Tom & Jerry posted last weekend. Raya ‘s opening weekend is also less than Croods: A New Age ‘s 3-day opening over its Thanksgiving stretch which posted $9.7M. And that’s definitely because Disney did not reach a deal with No. 3 chain Cinemark, as we first told you (thus, losing around 250 bookings), Harkins, and … [Read more...] about ‘Raya And The Last Dragon’ Debuting To $8M As Pic Hits Disney+ & NYC Reopens: Why The Industry Is Greatly Concerned
The Real Reason Channing Tatum’s X-Men Spinoff Gambit Never Got Made
Fox's X-Men movies were the MCU before the actual MCU became a thing. Back then, Fox had some ambitious plans for their own X-Men cinematic universe, with spinoff movies for individual X-Men characters. For the longest time, Channing Tatum was attached to play the lead in a standalone movie as Remy Etienne LeBeau aka Gambit, a mutant with the ability to manipulate kinetic energy to make objects explode. Gambit was initially offered to filmmaker Rupert Wyatt. When talks with Wyatt fell through, Gore Verbinski, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame came on board the project, before he also walked away from the film. Now, in an interview with Collider, Gore Verbinski explained why his Gambit movie never happened, mainly as a result of bad timing and lack of a good script. RELATED: Mister Sinister Tease at the End of X-Men: Apocalypse Was Supposed to Set Up Gambit "The script we never got to a place where everybody was in agreement. One WandaVision Finale Scene Had Paul Bettany So Frightened, He Couldn’t Learn His Lines
There are SPOILERS ahead, so proceed with caution. Fighting your own clone is a time-honored tradition in superhero stories. Christopher Reeve did it in Superman III , Chris Evans did it in Avengers: Endgame . And now, Paul Bettany has done the same as two different versions of the android Vision in the final episode of WandaVision . In a recent interview, Bettany admitted he was afraid of filming his scenes as the two Vision(s). "To differentiate between the two characters in a way that didn't just feel superficial... I mean, of course, one is purple, and one is white, so you have that going for you. But I wanted [The Vision] to be familiar and yet at the same time kind of intimidating. And for some reason, I was really intimidated by the idea. I kept putting off dealing with it because I knew we weren't shooting it till later. I was letting some ideas percolate because he has a very quick arc for where The Vision needs to go. He has a big turn to get through. I was … [Read more...] about One WandaVision Finale Scene Had Paul Bettany So Frightened, He Couldn’t Learn His Lines
