As he tucks into a plate of steak and eggs I ask him what a white man, a onetime Oath Keeper, is doing leading a gun-rights march for black people. Without missing a beat, Andrews launches into a vehement attack on the police. He says that during his first trip to Ferguson, the St. Louis County cops tried “illegally” to disband his rooftop outpost and that during his second, Chief Jon Belmar, who runs the force, harassed him and his men for carrying weapons in the city despite the fact that it was legal. Andrews tells me that he walked away from these encounters, and from what he’d seen of how the local black community is treated, convinced that Belmar and his officers were “serial rights abusers” who either didn’t know — or, worse, didn’t care — about the law. … [Read more...] about The Oath Keeper Who Wants to Arm Black Lives Matter

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Channels The Indomitable Spirit Of Black Panther Party Co-Founder Bobby Seale In ‘The Trial Of The Chicago 7’: “I Wore That Like A Badge Of Honor”
ABDUL-MATEEN: I definitely am. I’m in the process right now, working with my manager to start my production company, and one of the things that I’m going to do with that is find new voices, find voices from places like the places where I come from—West Oakland, New Orleans, Louisiana. [I’m going to] really mine those places for the stories that should be told, for those universes, and the adventures that go on in those places. That episode was, of course, shot back when NBC still was looking to bring back some The Cosby Show comedy-genre-resuscitating magic, making a deal to develop a new half-hour family comedy to star Cosby as a family patriarch. And yet, the morning after that Cosby reference on Celebrity Apprentice, media also had — naively — called it “worst timing possible,” “baffling,” etc. NBC finally iced its Cosby comedy-series project as more women came forward claiming he’d drugged and assaulted them. Trump this morning reiterated the timing of the taping today at the show’s Press Tour Q&A. “That show was shot a little before the whole big revelation came out. So when we shot it his situation came out after that, and we didn’t want to do any changes,” adding, “It became a very big topic of conversation.” … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Does Not Like Bill Cosby, Touts ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ – TCA
