The Peabodys, in their 82nd year, honor the year’s most powerful content across the fields of entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth, and public service programming. The organization based at the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia wrapped up a a weeklong rollout of all 30 winners Thursday. Ava DuVernay ’s feature adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents has just added Niecy Nash -Betts, Jon Bernthal , Vera Farmiga , Nick Offerman , Jasmine Cephas Jones and Connie Nielsen to the movie, which is shooting in Georgia. Larry Wilmore Inks Major Overall Deal With Universal Television
Larry Wilmore is moving to Universal Television with a rich four-year overall deal. Under the pact, The Bernie Mac Show creator will develop new projects through his Wilmore Films production company. In addition to creating The Bernie Mac Show, which ran on Fox for five seasons, Wilmore co-created Fox/the WB’s The PJs, Freeform’s Grown-ish and HBO’s Insecure. “The number of successful shows that Larry has had a hand in launching is impressive and he shows no signs of slowing down,” said Universal TV President Pearlena Igbokwe. “I could not be more excited and consider us lucky that he has chosen to call Universal his home for the next few years.” Wilmore is coming off an overall deal at ABC Studios. Peabody Awards Ceremony Finally Making Its Move To L.A., Sets 2023 Date
The Peabody Awards are officially moving their annual awards ceremony to Los Angeles, three years after originally announcing the plan that was eventually sidelined by the Covid pandemic. The organization said Thursday it will honor its winners June 11, 2023 at the Beverly Wilshire. It will mark the first time the honors, bestowed annually by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, will be held in L.A. For the past few events the ceremony was held in person at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Wilmore is writing, executive producing and is set to star in Lately , described as a behind-the-scenes look at the upstairs-downstairs dynamics of the people who work at a late-night talk show, sources tell Deadline. ‘The Bear’ Breakout Star Ayo Edebiri Joins Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts’ Movie
EXCLUSIVE: After playing one of the chefs behind a Chicago sandwich shop in the FX series The Bear, Ayo Edebiri has found a new team to join as sources tell Deadline she has boarded Marvel Studios ’ Thunderbolts in a new secret role. Edebiri joins an ensemble that was announced during Disney’s D23 event last year that includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
