AMC + announced on Thursday that it has has acquired the rights to three crime drama series: Cold Courage , Kin and Too Close . The first to premiere on the streaming service is Lionsgate’s Cold Courage , which will hit AMC+ on Thursday, March 11. Based on the award-winning and best-selling novels from Finnish journalist Pekka Hiltunen, Cold Courage follows two women as they collide during a series of murders in present-day London. Mari (Pihla Viitala), a fierce psychologist, and Lia (Sofia Pekkari), a shy graphic artist, are drawn together through the “Studio” – a clandestine group of like-minded people operating off the grid, dedicated to righting the wrongs of the powerful, influential and corrupt. (UPDATE with AMC statement) Over four years after former The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont and CAA first took AMC to court in a more than $280 million profit participation action, the duo hit the cabler again today with a new $10 million suit. ABC Renews 13 Series, Including Freshmen ‘Stumptown’ & ‘Mixed-ish’, For 2020-21 Season
ABC has renewed 13 more series for 2020-21, eight of them scripted, including freshmen Stumptown and mixed-ish. The broadcast network has picked up American Housewife, black-ish, The Conners, The Goldbergs, A Million Little Things, mixed-ish, The Rookie, Stumptown; reality stalwarts The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars and Shark Tank; as well as the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire revival and newsmagazine 20/20. They join previously renewed flagship Grey’s Anatomy, which is in the middle of a two-season pickup, spinoff Station 19, The Good Doctor, American Idol, America’s Funniest Home Videos, as well as newly picked up scripted series Big Sky, from David E. Mission: Impossible 7 Resumes Filming, Simon Pegg Shares New Teaser Image
One of the most troubled productions in recent times has been for Mission: Impossible 7, made all the more remarkable because of how smoothly the filming process for the movies in the franchise usually is. Things got so bad on the sets of the latest installment in the series that the entire production was shut down. Simon Pegg, who reprises the role of Benji Dunn in the film, recently announced on Instagram that production has resumed on Mission: Impossible 7. The actor posted a photo of the four lead actors of the movie that make up the Impossible Mission task force in the series, including Simon Pegg Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ving Rhames. Pegg captioned the picture, "back on the job with the fam." The actor made no mention of the controversy which had led to production getting shut down a few weeks ago. Berlinale Unveils Generation & Retrospective Selections
The 71st Berlin International Film Festival unveils its program this week, with the Generation and Retrospective sections kicking off proceedings today. A total of 15 films are selected across the two youth-focused Generation competitions – Kplus and 14plus. Of the titles chosen, 60% are directed by female directors. Scroll down for the full list. The movies come from the likes of Canada, China, and Korea. There are eight world premieres and six debuts. Films arriving from other festivals include the animation Cryptozoo, which was at Sundance and features Lake Bell and Michael Cera in its voice cast. The 2021 Retrospective program will focus on the comedic work of three actresses – Mae West, Rosalind Russell, and Carole Lombard during the era when the Motion Picture Production Code (“Hays Code”) was coming into effect.
