In a panel appearance Tuesday at CES in Las Vegas, a pair of top WarnerMedia execs offered a few new insights into HBO Max , the company’s subscription streaming offering set to debut in May. Chief Technology Officer Jeremy Legg and EVP and GM of Direct-to-Consumer Andy Forssell painted a somewhat more detailed picture of the $15-a-month service than was offered last October at the company’s investor day. Legg said one of the goals of the new platform’s user experience will be to eliminate what he called the “endless scroll” of many existing streaming, through a mix of tech tools and human curation. Also, the aim is to target mobile devices with an interface that is more “swipey” and less grid-oriented than those of competitors. (“Is that a word?” he joked.) Surprise! We're getting a brand new Alien video game this summer. Cold Iron Studios and 20th Century Games have revealed the first trailer for Aliens: Fireteam . The game will put players in the shoes of a Colonial Marine as they take on Xenomorphs and other extraterrestrial threats with a team of soldiers. The video game trailer is action-packed. This is far more James Cameron's than it is Ridley Scott's original Alien. Instead of slow-build tension and jump scares, this is all-out war against the deadly creatures. We got a great feel for what the game is going to look like and how it is going to put players right in the middle of the action. REXCLUSIVE : Netflix ’s big spending at the virtual EFM is continuing with a mighty worldwide pre-buy of around $55M for Christian Bale Gothic horror-thriller The Pale Blue Eye , which will reunite the actor with director Scott Cooper. By our calculations, the deal marks a record for a worldwide deal at the European Film Market. The streamer beat out multiple competitors for the project. The movie, which Cooper has wanted to make for more than a decade, revolves around the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Ridley Scott recently returned to the Alien franchise in an arguably more proper way than he did with 2012's Prometheus by releasing Alien: Covenant . Now, writer Damon Lindelof has shed some light on where the story could possibly go, should Fox give the green light to the Alien: Covenant sequel, which was being called Alien: Awakening last we heard.
