ITV Sets John Darwin True-Crime Drama; Unscripted Orders Include ‘Ready To Mingle’ & ‘Queen Unseen’

ITV has announced a glut of new content as part of a spring showcase, including revealing that it has greenlit a true-crime drama series on John Darwin, the former prison officer who was jailed for faking his own death. Objective Media Group’s Story Films is making four-part series The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe , which is based on an unpublished manuscript written by journalist David Leigh. The series tells the true story of how debt-laden Darwin and his wife, Anne Darwin, came up with an elaborate scheme to defraud insurance companies by faking his death in a canoeing accident in 2002. Anne told the world that her husband had gone missing off the coast of Cleveland, England, weaving a web of deceit that included lying to her sons about their own father’s death. Anya Taylor-Joy won big at the Golden Globes awards this year, snagging the Best Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture for TV award for her lead role in Netflix's The Queen's Gambit . Despite the series only running for one season, it quickly became a critical darling and an audience favorite. Following the actress's Golden Globes win, the call for a second season of the show gathered renewed strength online. In an interview with ET Online, Taylor-Joy expressed her willingness to return for a new season, the prospects of which appear unlikely at this point. "Maybe. AARP Movies For Grownups Awards Names ‘The United States Vs. Billie Holiday’ Best Picture

AARP The Magazine on Thursday unveiled its winners for the annual Movies for Grownups Awards, handing Hulu’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday its top prize, Best Picture/Best Movie for Grownups. Sophia Loren for Netflix’s The Life Ahead and Anthony Hopkins for Sony Classics’ The Father were named Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, while Aaron Sorkin won for both directing and the screenplay for Netflix’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 . The group, which advocates for the 50-plus audience and with its awards highlights films that resonate with older viewers, also featured TV categories for the first time.
