The title of Bill Gates ’ new book – How to Avoid a Climate Disaster — is very Bill Gates-ian. Above everything else, Gates is an engineer, a man who sees a problem and immediately wonders how to fix it. Gates’ world is rational, logical, and, in a deep but not simple way, optimistic. After all, if a problem is fixable, you just have to find the best tools for the job and get it done. In his new book, Gates takes on the mother of all problems: the climate crisis . Gates clearly sets out what the goal should be – zero CO2 pollution by 2050, which is widely recognized as the target for a habitable planet – and then analyzes how to get there. Chapters have titles like “How We Plug In,” “How We Grow Things,” and “How We Keep Cool and Stay Warm.” In each, he … [Read more...] about ‘RS Interview: Special Edition’ With Bill Gates

The Feds vs. Goldman
O n the day the Securities and Exchange Commission filed suit against Goldman Sachs for securities fraud, shares in the company plunged 12.8 percent, closing at $160.70. Steamers have always been sort of an unheralded tool in a person’s closet, an “if-you-know-you-know” type of device that gets a decent amount of use if you’re trying to get wrinkles out of a suit or dress before a big event, but isn’t otherwise a “must-buy” like an iron, or actual washer and dryer. According to new research, the best steamers (also known as “steam cleaners” or “garment steamers”) can go a long way towards eliminating household germs and bacteria, while helping to refresh clothing, bedding, furniture and everyday accessories too.
