Panic! at the Disco fans are putting their investigative skills to good use as they work to crack the code of ShutUpAndGoToBed.com, a cryptic website that popped up over the weekend appearing to tease an upcoming release from the Brendon Urie-fronted band. The site functions as a sleep calculator, gathering information about age demographics and bedtimes to access a personalized wake up time — but all of the countless combinations result in the same suggested time to rise: 6!01. Fans speculate that the unconventionally written time might be pointing toward a new Panic! at the Disco release as early as June 1. Every now and then, the website swaps out the time for L!LV, which could correspond to 5:55 or Viva! Las Vegas, linking back to Urie’s hometown. Don't be a diva, it's time to be free! Panic! Jimmy Wilsey’s Guitar Helped Make Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ a Smash. But Wilsey Was Never the Same After
As Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” recently demonstrated, sometimes it takes a while for a song to catch on and become a hit. Lizzo’s track exploded two years after release, and something similar happened over 30 years ago with Chris Isaak ’s “Wicked Game.” When Isaak’s Heart Shaped World was initially rolled out in 1989, it didn’t make much of an impact. Then, with an assist from director David Lynch, “Wicked Game” caught on and got released as a single in late 1990. Finally, in 1991, the song broke into the Top 10. That was all good news for Isaak, who finally became the star everyone had predicted years before. But it was a mixed blessing for Isaak’s lead guitarist, James Calvin Wilsey , who came up with the swoony guitar lick that ran throughout the Isaak-written song. After a tenure in the San Francisco punk band the Avengers, Wilsey and Isaak formed a rockabilly band, Silvertone, in 1980; by 1985 Isaak was the frontman and Silvertone became the name for his backup group, which … [Read more...] about Jimmy Wilsey’s Guitar Helped Make Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ a Smash. We Are Waiting on Zuck
If you happen to be wondering why it is that some of your favourite small and medium publishers are silent today, it’s because they are all #WaitingOnZuck. Kicking off today, the #WaitingOnZuck campaign is spearheaded by Decade of Action and is in direct response to last year’s News Media Bargaining Code, which was signed into law in February of 2021. The News Media Bargaining Code resulted in Facebook blocking news from local publishers as they continued to oppose the law, which would require designated tech platforms to strike commercial deals with Australian publishers that recognised the value of the content those publishers provided the platforms. Though Facebook ( Meta ) has indeed agreed to some commercial deals, they have refused to negotiate with most of Australia’s independent and small publishers. As the #WaitingOnZuck campaign explains, “this risks the slow demise of meaningful independent media in Australia which gives our industry its diversity.” Now, … [Read more...] about We Are Waiting on Zuck
Blood Brothers: Inside the Music of ‘The Knick’
W hen Steven Soderbergh began work on The Knick – his gritty, historical medical series for Cinemax, set in New York City in 1900 – he enjoyed replicating the era’s look, fashion and stomach-churning surgical practices. But one of the few things that was far too ghastly to replicate was the music. “Oh, it was horrible,” he says with a laugh. “Aesthetically, it’s a really cool period, but the music was absolutely boring and not interesting. Ragtime had just started – and there’s a tiny bit of that in the background of some scenes – but other than that, there was nothing good.” So the director turned to the only person he thought could give The Knick a unique sound: his frequent collaborator, Cliff Martinez. As the director filmed the show, he had been using shimmery EDM flourishes that Martinez had written for the 2012 teensploitation flick Spring Breakers and some of the composer’s wiry synth lines from his own 2011 pandemic disaster film, Contagion , as temporary … [Read more...] about Blood Brothers: Inside the Music of ‘The Knick’
Kamal Haasan To Be Roped In by Prashanth Neel and Rajamouli For Their Upcoming Films?
The region-wise southern film industry has been excelling on a global stage with big-budget, larger-than-life storytelling ideas. The movies made in Tollywood, Kollywood, Malayalam, and Kannada are being embraced by audiences belonging to northern parts of India, unlike before. The term pan-India has come into existence, thanks to the stardom of the heroes and producers willing to invest huge amounts in scripts. Most southern heroes have catapulted to national stardom leading to directors and actors from neighboring industries coming together to make remarkable films. Prashanth Neel is one such director who rose to fame with KGF Chapters 1 & 2 starring Yash. He convinced Jr NTR, the Bheem of RRR, with his script. The collaboration piqued interest among moviegoers and fans of the Telugu and Kannada industries. Rajamouli is a legendary director who has not tasted a single disaster to date, throughout his career. His scale and horizons have been increasing … [Read more...] about Kamal Haasan To Be Roped In by Prashanth Neel and Rajamouli For Their Upcoming Films?

‘Better Call Saul’ Recap: Kim Reverts to a Life of Crime
A review of this week’s Better Call Saul , “Axe and Grind,” just as soon as we sidebar in the law library… “Relax. You got away with it.” —Kim’s mom What happens to Kim? This is a question I asked regarding the last Saul episode to feature young Kim (still played by Katie Beth Hall, with her hair pulled partially back, but not yet in the full power- ponytail of adult Kim) and Kim’s mom (Beth Hoyt, who still looks and sounds uncannily like Rhea Seehorn). That episode, “Wexler V. Goodman,” opened with young Kim walking away from her drunken mother rather than getting into a car with her. It closed with Kim explaining in great detail why she had every good reason to break up with Jimmy, only for her to declare at the last moment that perhaps they should get married instead. It was Kim’s weakness for hustlers and damaged people winning out over her understanding of what is good, both for her and the world at large. “Axe and Grind” begins a bit differently, though it … [Read more...] about ‘Better Call Saul’ Recap: Kim Reverts to a Life of Crime
Sid Vicious Accused of Murder
Former Sex Pistol Sid Vicious was arrested on October 12th at the Chelsea Hotel and charged with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend of almost two years, Nancy Spungen. Spungen, like Vicious (real name John Simon Ritchie) a heroin addict, is thought to have died between the hours of five and nine on the morning Sid was arrested. Her body was found in the bathroom of the couple’s first-floor hotel room in a pool of blood. Dr. Geetha Natarajan, associate medical examiner for Manhattan, said the cause of death was internal hemorrhaging due to a single knife wound to the lower abdomen. Vicious’ personal friends in the punk community immediately suspected that Spungen’s death was part of a botched double suicide. “They were both really depressed and talked about dying the last few weeks,” said a woman who had become friendly with them at the Chelsea. Another friend said the couple had a long-standing agreement that if one died, the other would follow. Then, a week after his release … [Read more...] about Sid Vicious Accused of Murder
