Some of the biggest Asian acts in the world will descend upon Southern California this August as label 88rising ’s Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival returns for a second year. Indonesian songwriter and producer NIKI, Hong Kong native Jackson Wang and his “Magic Man Experience,” and Indonesian rapper Rich Brian are among the headliners for the 2022 edition of Head in the Clouds, which takes place in Pasadena, California August 20 and 21 at Brookside at the Rose Bowl. The trio’s appearance on the bill comes after all three artists performed during 88rising’s groundbreaking Coachella set, which featured the surprise reunion of K-pop girl group 2NE1. Head in the Clouds: Rich Brian, K-Pop Group iKON at ‘Asian Coachella’
“Representation” was the word of the weekend as more than a dozen Asian artists took the stage Saturday for the second annual Head in the Clouds festival in Los Angeles . Dubbed by fans as the “Asian Coachella,” the single-day festival brought out more than 20,000 people, according to organizers 88rising , the Los Angeles-based music label and creative agency known for their roster of Asian acts like Rich Brian , Joji , and Higher Brothers, all of whom performed at the event. The show, which took over Los Angeles State Historic Park in downtown L.A., also marked the West Coast festival debut for K-Pop act, iKON , who first set foot on U.S. soil earlier this year, with a rousing showcase at SXSW. PBS’ National Memorial Day Concert Returns With Tributes To Colin Powell, Gold Star Families
The National Memorial Day Concert will return as a live presentation on May 29, with plans including a tribute to General Colin Powell and commemorations of Gold Star families and to those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The 90-minute broadcast once again will be hosted by Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise and will once again feature a lineup of musical performances along with tribute segments. It will air on PBS and stream on YouTube starting at 8 PM ET. Dennis Haysbert will be featured in the tribute to Powell, who had regularly spoken at previous concerts. Powell, the former Secretary of State and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died last year. Gil Birmingham will appear in Generations of Service, a tribute to the 58,000 lives lost in the Vietnam war and those who served during that era.
