‘Bulletproof’ Co-Creator Nick Love Developing Sky Gangster Series Set During Costa Del Sol Crime Wave

· February 9, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE: Bulletproof co-creator and The Football Factory director Nick Love has set his sights on his latest crime caper — a gangster series for Sky that has echoes of his 2005 Danny Dyer film The Business. Deadline hears that Love is returning to the world of the 1980s crime wave in Spain’s Costa del Sol for the drama, which is working titled A Town Called Malice in an apparent nod to The Jam’s hit 1982 single of the same name. The project is housed at Bulletproof and Britannia producer Vertigo Films and a writers’ room has been developing the series for Comcast-owned Sky, although it has not yet been formally greenlit. Producers are hoping to shoot in the summer. During the 1980s, the Costa del Sol became known as the Costa del Crime because a colorful array of British gangsters took up residence on its sun-soaked shores, thanks to the absence of an extradition treaty between the UK and Spain from 1978 to 1985. Disney Closing Blue Sky Studios, Fox’s Once-Dominant Animation House Behind ‘Ice Age’ Franchise

· February 9, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE: Disney is shuttering Blue Sky Studios, the $5.9 billion global grossing former 20th Century Fox animation division which during its run churned out 13 features including the Ice Age franchise. One can say that the writing was always on the wall for Blue Sky, especially after Disney acquired 20th Century Studios and its assets in March 2019. However, the past year has been challenging for Disney on many fronts, of course due to the pandemic, not just on the studio side but with theme park closures and cruise line dockings as well.  Sustaining a third feature animation studio was no longer viable for Disney given the current economic realities caused by Covid. The last day for Blue Sky will be in April. The number of Blue Sky employees being impacted numbers 450. Disney will be working with the employees at the Greenwich, CT based animation house to explore open positions at the other internal studios. “Lucy” Who Inspired Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” Dies

· September 28, 2009 ·

Lucy Vodden , the subject of a Julian Lennon drawing that inspired his father, John, to write the Beatles ’ Sgt. Pepper’s classic “ Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds ,” passed away last week after a long battle with lupus. Vodden, formerly Lucy O’ Donnell, was 46. In a statement, Julian and his mother Cynthia Lennon said they were “shocked and saddened” by Vodden’s death, the Associated Press reports . As the story goes, in 1966, Julian Lennon brought home a drawing of his classmate Lucy, describing the image of the girl as “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” The rest is rock history. Inspired by the drawing, Lennon — and McCartney, who Lennon told Rolling Stone in 1968 contributed imagery like “newspaper taxis” — crafted one of their most famous and controversial songs. For decades, fans have debated the Lucy story and argued that the song’s psychedelic lyrics are veiled references to the band’s experimentation with LSD, hence the capitalizations. However, Lennon … [Read more...] about “Lucy” Who Inspired Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” Dies
