Ban Gay Marriage, Deport Dreamers: Doug Mastriano’s Extreme Views Caught on Tape

August 16, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

No one would mistake Doug Mastriano — the Trump-endorsed candidate for governor in Pennsylvania — for a moderate. He tried to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, participated in the events of Jan. 6 (where he was slated to be a speaker ), and has endorsed a no-exceptions abortion ban, dismissing the notion of “my body, my choice” as “ ridiculous nonsense .” But in a radio interview in 2018, the former Army colonel let the mask slip all the way down, revealing himself as an extremist who would block equality for LGBTQ+ couples, who denies global warming, and who believes Islam is “not compatible” with the United States Constitution. Mastriano made the extreme remarks during an interview in February 2018, as he announced a campaign for U.S. Congress. Mastriano spoke to hosts for WEEO News Talk 103.7, a conservative FM channel with a studio in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, near the Maryland border. After Mastriano declared himself a House candidate, … [Read more...] about Ban Gay Marriage, Deport Dreamers: Doug Mastriano’s Extreme Views Caught on Tape

‘He’s Like a Racist Jason Bourne’: Late-Night Hosts React to FBI Raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

August 16, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

The recent FBI search of former President Donald Trump ’s Mar-a-Lago complex has continued to make headlines this week, much to the delight of late-night hosts. Several late-night shows addressed the news, with everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Trevor Noah weighing in. “Seriously, you know you did something bad when you’re the former president and you’re still making more headlines than the current president,” Fallon quipped during his monologue on The Tonight Show . He continued, “You gotta hand it to Trump, he has endless scandals for six years and he always manages to keep them feeling fresh and new, don’t you think? And the action never stops. It’s like if Discovery ran the Shark Week 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.” On Jimmy Kimmel Live , guest host Desus Nice also addressed the documents found in Trump’s “basement,” adding that Trump said the FBI also took three of his passports. “Multiple passports, lots of cash, hunted by the FBI,” Nice commented. “He’s … [Read more...] about ‘He’s Like a Racist Jason Bourne’: Late-Night Hosts React to FBI Raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

Trump’s Site Is Being Weaponized Against the FBI — and Their Families

August 16, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Former President Donald Trump claims that he “will do whatever” he can to bring down “the temperature” following last week’s FBI ’s raid of his Florida home and club, Mar-a-Lago . But even a glimpse of Truth Social — Trump’s social media company — shows that the MAGA website has been a haven for private, doxxed information not only about authorities involved in the federal raid, but also of their families. A review of Truth Social postings by Rolling Stone shows Trump supporters have spent the past week doxxing both Judge Bruce Reinhart, the magistrate judge who approved the Mar-a-Lago warrant, and an FBI agent involved in preparing the request, as well as their families. The information includes their purported home addresses, phone numbers, places of worship, private offices, and similar information about the men’s families and junior employees. Rolling Stone has declined to name the FBI agent targeted out of safety concerns. Spokespeople for … [Read more...] about Trump’s Site Is Being Weaponized Against the FBI — and Their Families

‘Better Call Saul’ Series Finale Recap: Slippin’ Jimmy Vs. Saul Goodman

August 16, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Better Call Saul has ended. A review of the series finale, “Saul Gone,” coming up just as soon as I build a time machine… “Where do I see it ending? With me on top, like always.” —Saul James Morgan McGill and Walter White join forces one final time midway through “Saul Gone.” It is a flashback to the two of them hiding out in the vacuum store’s basement circa the “Granite State” episode of Breaking Bad , each of them waiting for Ed to secret them away to their new lives under assumed identities. Their conversation is a reminder of Walt’s arrogance, as well as his contempt for Saul: When Saul suggests he could have sued Gray Matter on Walt’s behalf, Walt dismisses him as the last attorney he ever would have employed for such a task. He would laugh in disbelief if you were to tell him that the man he knows as Saul Goodman once kicked off a successful multimillion-dollar class action suit against another corporation on behalf of defenseless senior citizens. Mostly, … [Read more...] about ‘Better Call Saul’ Series Finale Recap: Slippin’ Jimmy Vs. Saul Goodman

Nielsen, Amazon Seal ‘Thursday Night Football’ Ratings Pact; Numbers To Include Out-Of-Home, Twitch And Local TV Viewing

August 16, 2022 by deadline.com

Nielsen and Amazon have reached a landmark deal for measuring the viewership of Thursday Night Football , which begins an unprecedented run next month as a streaming exclusive on Prime Video . Beginning next month, pregame, in-game and postgame elements of the broadcast will count toward the rating, both on Prime Video and Twitch. Over-the-air local TV station carriage in both teams’ local markets — guaranteed under longtime NFL rules — and out-of-home viewing will also be added to the metric, enabling it to be a more robust (if not entirely apples-to-apples) figure to compare with Sunday and Monday NFL games. The 3-year pact represents the first time a streaming service will be included in Nielsen’s national TV measurement service, and also a first for a live streaming program. Nielsen for the past two years has captured total streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu, adding Apple TV+ and HBO Max along the way to those streaming rankings. The company … [Read more...] about Nielsen, Amazon Seal ‘Thursday Night Football’ Ratings Pact; Numbers To Include Out-Of-Home, Twitch And Local TV Viewing

The Biden Climate Bill: Will It Save Us?

August 16, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

The success of President Joe Biden ’s climate bill, which he’s slated to sign Tuesday, will not be judged by polls, or by the price of gas at the pump, or by the ferocity of the next hurricane that hits the Gulf Coast. It will be measured in the clear air high above the Pacific Ocean at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. In 1958, when scientist Charles Keeling began measuring CO2 in the atmosphere at Mauna Loa, the level was 316 parts per million (250 years ago, before the industrial era, it was 280 ppm). Today, 63 years later, the CO2 level is 416 ppm, an increase of roughly a third over pre-industrial levels. It’s the accumulation of this molecule that’s trapping heat in the atmosphere, causing oceans to rise, forests to burn, and extreme heat waves to cook cities. By measuring CO2, Keeling began what amounts to a diary of our march toward climate chaos. What’s most remarkable about The Keeling Curve , as the chart of atmospheric CO2 levels is called, is it’s unbroken … [Read more...] about The Biden Climate Bill: Will It Save Us?
