James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the new era of the DC Universe that has already created a lot of noise. The Guardians of the Galaxy director has been known to have a close-knit relationship with the actors he works with and some fans are hoping he doesn’t bring Marvel actors into the new DC films. A fan on Twitter mentioned Gunn in a tweet asking him not to “encourage” his Guardians cast to “follow” him to DCU suggesting to “find fresh actors that can craft brilliant characters and forge new memories for audiences.” Gunn replied to that tweet to clarify and give insight into the casting process of the films he’s working on. “We have hundreds of roles to cast. As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before, & some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with,” Gunn tweeted . “What matters most is the actor fits the role & they’re easy to work with.” Back in December, Gunn said on social media … [Read more...] about James Gunn Responds To Criticism Of Casting Marvel Actors In DC Films

Dave Bautista Lets DC Role Of Bane Go After Making One Last Pitch To ‘Guardians’ Collaborator James Gunn
The iconic DC villain Bane , best known for breaking Batman’s back, continues to be the character that got away for Dave Bautista . The wrestler-turned-actor shared in an interview with Insider published on Monday that he approached James Gunn about the prospect of playing Bane following his Guardians of the Galaxy director’s ascension as Co-CEO and Co-Chair of DC Studios. “I have had conversations with James about that,” Bautista said, “but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch…and I think you need to do that.” Bautista went on to say that he believes if DC is to be “revived,” Gunn and Co-CEO/Co-Chair Peter Safran “need to start from scratch” — reimagining the cinematic universe with younger talent front and center. “You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that,” said the actor. “And, also, I have to say that I … [Read more...] about Dave Bautista Lets DC Role Of Bane Go After Making One Last Pitch To ‘Guardians’ Collaborator James Gunn

DC Bosses “Didn’t Fire” Henry Cavill; Talk Fate Of Robert Pattinson, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Filmmakers & More In New Universe
When new DC Co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran took their new posts last fall, there was a lot of agita in town with their swift decisions. This included the axing of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 , pausing the future of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and subtracting Henry Cavill from their new Superman Legacy movie after the actor (with Warner Bros) announced his return on social as the Man of Steel and appeared in Black Adam . Rumors promptly swirled that Gunn and Safran were hellbent on decimating the previous DC Snyderverse, which included recasting the actors who portrayed the comic book’s biggest superheroes, i.e. Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ), Aquaman ( Jason Momoa ), Shazam ( Zachary Levi ) and more. Quelling that fire, Safran said Monday that the door is still open to do more with those actors in their DC roles. Ezra Miller’s ‘Flash’ Future Addressed By New DC Bosses
DC Bosses Peter Safran and James Gunn in an unveiling of their DC Universe Chapter 1 yesterday haven’t shut the door on Ezra Miller ’s possible return as the Flash . Despite the actor’s avalanche of 2022 tabloid headlines, the duo expressed their elation for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, due out on June 16 after a long Covid delay, and how it will reset the DC universe as the hand-off occurs between the Snyder-verse and the new Safran/Gunn-verse. That said, still TBD on whether Miller reprising the role, however, Safran was very upbeat on the actor’s recovery. Said Safran, “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now.” “When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is,” added the DC co-boss, “But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.” “And in our conversations with them over the last couple of … [Read more...] about Ezra Miller’s ‘Flash’ Future Addressed By New DC Bosses
‘Batgirl’ “Was Not Releasable” Says DC Co-Chief Peter Safran, But Studio Would Like To Be Back In Business With Pic’s Directors
DC Co-Chairmen and CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn were asked to postmortem the Batgirl axing situation yesterday at their slate unveiling for the comic book studio. “I saw the movie,” said Safran, “There are a lot of incredibly talented people in front of and behind the camera in that film, but that was not releasable. It happens sometimes.” He added: “I think [Warner Discovery CEO David] Zaslav and the team made a bold and courageous decision to cancel it, because it would have hurt DC and those people involved. I spoke to [ Batgirl directors] Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah last week — we’d love to be in business with all of them.” “Christina Hodson wrote it, and we’re already back in business with her,” said the DC producer referring to the scribe who’s part of Gunn’s writers room for DC Universe Chapter One “Gods and Monsters”. The Leslie Grace-Michael Keaton-Brendan Fraser starring film, originally destined for HBO Max, cost around $70M. James Gunn Hasn’t Chosen His Superman Yet; Matt Reeves To Meet With DC Bosses About ‘Batman 2’
New DC Co-Boss James Gunn in debunk fashion took the air out of fanboy reports that Euphoria ‘s Jacob Elordi is rumored to play Superman in the filmmaker’s early-days iteration of the Man of Steel. Said Gunn on Twitter, “My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet.” “Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t,” he continued. “We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them,” Gunn added. Meanwhile, Batman director Matt Reeves in a sitdown with Collider revealed that he’s expected to meet with Gunn and fellow co-DC Boss Peter Safran in the next few weeks. The new DC administration is expected to unveil their eight-ten year plan for the comic book universe. “The Batverse thing, as James has said, and as Peter has said, is kind of its own thing they’re letting us do,” Reeves told Collider. Superman & Lois likely will continue “for one or two more seasons,” according to DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran . James Gunn Responds To Questions On Who Doomed ‘Doom Patrol’ And ‘Titans’
James Gunn says don’t blame him for the recent cancellations of Doom Patrol and Titans . Warner Bros.-Discovery has announced that both shows will end with their fourth seasons, offering two legs of six episodes for a total of 12 shows to close things out. The cancellations were seen by some as part of the changes Gunn and Peter Safran are bringing to DC Studios as they attempt to redevelop its faltering Universe. “The decision to end the series precedes us,” Gunn said on Twitter. “But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.” Gunn posted in response to an angry fan who blamed Gunn and Safran, saying they have “a mighty big hill” to climb to win the affection of fans. Doom Patrol stars Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, April Bowlby, Diane Guerrero, Joivan Wade and Michelle Gomez. Titans had Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft and Ryan Potter. … [Read more...] about James Gunn Responds To Questions On Who Doomed ‘Doom Patrol’ And ‘Titans’
