EXCLUSIVE : Good Deed Entertainment has acquired North American and UK rights to the indie drama Midday Black Midnight Blue , starring 2x Emmy winner Merritt Wever ( Godless ), slating it for a day-and-date release in June. The first feature from writer-directors Samantha Soule and Daniel Talbott, also starring Chris Stack (AMC’s Interview with the Vampire ) and Soule ( Godless ), follows Ian (Stack) as he grapples with his shifting memories of Liv (Soule), a woman he once loved. For Ian, it’s a chance run-in with Liv’s sister (Wever) that sparks a journey in which he has a chance to reconnect to the light and fight his way back to life. The producers of the Comedy Central series are currently weighing up how the y replace Trevor Noah in the hot seat come the fall, and one suggestion has been to continue the revolving roster of guest hosts on a permanent basis. The ratings certainly suggest it’s working. Comparing the first quarter of 2023 – Leslie Jones kicked off the new format January 17 – with the first quarter of 2022 when Noah was host, Deadline understands that linear ratings are up 13%. On the social side, views are up 16% in this period compared with last year. Much of this has been done without much marketing; Deadline understands a push is being saved for when the new plan is in place later in the year. Deadline revealed last week that Colin Davis, who was Roku’s Head of Scripted Originals, was moving to oversee comedy development at Sony Pictures Television with alternative chief Brian Tannenbaum taking over as Head of Roku Originals on an interim basis. That move is now permanent, as we forecast, with Tannenbaum now reporting directly to David Eilenberg, who was recently promoted to VP, and Head of Content, Roku Media. Elsewhere, Lydia Antonini, who was previously Head of Creative Affairs, becomes Head of Scripted Originals and non-scripted exec Olivia LaRoche has been promoted to Head of Alternative Originals. Both Antonini and LaRoche now report to Tannenbaum. Motherland , a “dark and monumental” film about neo-nationalism in Belarus, earned the top prize tonight at the prestigious CPH:DOX festival in Copenhagen. Belorussian directors Alexander Mihalkovich and Hanna Badziaka accepted the Dox:Award honor at a ceremony at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in the Danish capital. Jurors praised Motherland as “a cinematic and meaningful film that took its time unfolding the complexity of living within an oppressive and unjust system. It poses questions about the idea of an individual choice within a cornered society. Gwyneth Paltrow testified in her ski injury trial she initially thought the man whom she says came up from behind her and collided with her was committing a sexual assault. Paltrow is on the stand, and gave the jury her account of the accident on a Deer Valley ski slope. She said she was going slowly when suddenly, she heard "a strange rustling noise" behind her. She says the skier -- Dr. Terry Sanderson -- came up from behind and his skis went in between her legs, with his body pressing into her back. Gwyneth said she froze and got upset. During her deposition, Gwyneth testified she thought she was being sexually assaulted, and Sanderson's lawyer picked up on that in court, asking "Did you know if it was an intentional assault of a sexual nature?
