Nithiin's highly anticipated film Check was released last weekend (February 26). Though the film also starring wink sensation Priya Prakash Varrier and Rakul Preet Singh was expected to perform well at the theatres, the prison drama unfortunately, failed to garner much attention of the audience. The sudden hike in the ticket price was also one of the reasons why the film left many disinterested. With its 3rd day theatrical run in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film collected Rs 1.70 crore at the box office. Notably, on days 1 and 2, Check acquired Rs 3.38 crore and Rs 1.60 crore from the Telugu region. The total collection of the film is now summed up to Rs 6.68 crore. Well, with a couple of days left for fresh releases, we will have to wait and watch to see whether Check pulls more audiences to theatres or not. Two fine actors volley for advantage across 90 minutes in the tastily insidious little melodrama Next Door (Nebenan) . Stepping behind the camera for the first time while also remaining in front of it, Daniel Bruhl ( Inglourious Basterds, Rush, Captain America: Civil War ) shows a sure grip on this mostly two-handed bar room encounter between an international film star (played by Bruhl himself) and a portly older fellow ( Babylon Berlin ’s Peter Kurth in a terrific turn) who knows far too much about the actor’s private life for comfort. This sharp-minded and engrossing drama of wits and secrets succeeds both in keeping the audience keen to know what’s really going on here and achieving lift-off for Bruhl’s directorial career if he seeks one. This week of Berlin International Film Festival announcements comes to a close with the main course – the Competition and Special Screenings programs. Scroll down for the full lists. The 15-strong Competition – all world premieres – includes titles from filmmakers including Celine Sciamma, Daniel Bruhl and Xavier Beauvois. Celine Sciamma is following on from her Golden Globe-nominated Portrait Of A Lady On Fire with her next movie, Petite Maman, which only went into production in November; plot details are hush but it is understood to star two eight-year-olds. Actor-turned-filmmaker Bruhl also plays the protagonist in his directorial debut, Next Door , which centers on a film star and his troublesome neighbor. BBC Casts ‘ My Name Is Leon ’ My Name is Leon .
