EXCLUSIVE : Screen Gems has acquired the rights to Crypt TV ’s horror Island of the Dolls , based on the infamous, true story of La Isla de las Munecas south of Mexico City, in a competitive situation. Located in the channels of Xochimilco, La Isla has become a tourist attraction with a mysterious and horrifying history. For decades, dolls were placed all over the island by former owner Julian Santana Barrera, as he believed they would help chase away the spirit of a girl who had drowned nearby years before. The island has previously been featured on the Travel Channel show Ghost Adventures , as well as BuzzFeed Unsolved . Jack Davis and Darren Brandl will produce the Island of the Dolls film for Crypt TV, alongside Ana de Diego of Spark & Riot, who brought the story to Crypt and was key in acquiring the rights. The musical comedy will continue on Apple TV +: The streamer has ordered a second season of Schmigadoon! EXCLUSIVE: Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz, executive producer/showrunner of Gordita Chronicles , is extending her overall with Sony Pictures Television, the studio behind the coming-of-age HBO Max comedy series, which premieres today. Under the new multi-year pact, Muñoz-Liebowitz will continue to develop scripted comedy series across cable and streaming as well as run Gordita Chronicles if the series, which is drawing solid early reviews, is renewed for a second season. The Morning Show executive producer and director Mimi Leder is sticking around Apple TV +. The Emmy-winning filmmaker ( On The Basis of Sex, ER ) has signed a multi-year, overall deal with the streamer. Apple TV+ will have a first-look on streaming features, as well as an exclusive deal for series developed by Leder. Leder directed the pilot of The Morning Show and earned her 10th Emmy nomination for her direction of the season one finale. The series was recently renewed for a third season and is currently in preproduction. Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are getting into business with Lionsgate TV . The prolific duo have signed a first-look producing deal with the studio via their Le Train Train Productions under which they will produce scripted programming for multiple platforms. Their first project in development is romantic comedy Lovesick , based on the UK romantic comedy series of the same name. Originally produced by Clerkenwell Films, the project is part of the scripted co-production partnership between Lionsgate and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions. The British sitcom, created by Tom Edge, revolved around a group of English friends sharing a house in the West End of Glasgow and their romantic lives.
