The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today that its board of governors has voted to expel Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership. The vote came during a meeting Tuesday night and was “in accordance with the organization’s Standards of Conduct,” the Academy said in announcing the news Thursday. “The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity,” it said in a statement. The act of kicking a member out of the Academy is rare, but the AMPAS board in October did vote to expel Harvey Weinstein after a special emergency meeting in October, following bombshell reports the New York Times and New Yorker about decades of alleged sexual harassment and abuse. Cosby was found guilty April 26 in Pennsylvania on three counts of aggravated indecent assault against former Temple University Andrea Constand in 2004. Camille Cosby has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004  – calling it “mob justice”. Camille Cosby, who has been married to The Cosby Show star since 1964, has gone after the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the media and Cosby’s accusers in a statement that alludes to racial injustice. “The overall media, with their frenzied, relentless demonization of him and unquestioning acceptance of accusers’ allegations without any attendant proof, have superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which guarantee due process and equal protection, and thereby eliminated the possibility of a fair trial and unbiased jury. Bono will be among the guests of First Lady Jill Biden at tonight’s State of the Union address, joining a list that includes the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Oksana Markarova and Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as the mother and stepfather of Tyre Nichols. The White House cited Bono’s work as an activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty. Bono helped build bipartisan support for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which President George W. Bush announced at his State of the Union 20 years ago. Bono visited the White House in December along with other members of U2 as they were recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors. Getty Buffalo Bills and Sabres owner Kim Pegula is dealing with both speech and memory issues after suffering cardiac arrest last year ... her daughter, Jessica Pegula , revealed on Tuesday. The tennis star opened up about her mom's health in an emotional piece for The Players' Tribune -- explaining it's been an uphill battle for Kim after she nearly lost her life following a June 2022 medical emergency. Jessica said she first learned of the issues involving the 53-year-old a few days after she had returned to the U.S. from the French Open last year. "I got a call around midnight (on my mom’s birthday) from my sister Kelly who was staying at my parents' house," Jessica said. "Something was wrong with our mom, and she was headed to the hospital in an ambulance." Basil Fawlty is back. A reboot of John Cleese ’s British comedy sensation Fawlty Towers is in the works and Rob Reiner ’s Castle Rock Entertainment is developing. More than 40 years after the second and final season drew to a close, Monty Python star Cleese is set to write and star alongside daughter Camilla Cleese , in news that will bring joy to a generation of British comedy fans. The new series will explore how Cleese’s over-the-top, cynical and misanthropic Basil Fawlty navigates  the modern world. Plot details are largely being kept under wraps but the development will bring the story forward to explore Basil’s relationship with a daughter he has just discovered he had, as the pair tempt fate and team up to run a boutique hotel.
