‘A Prayer Before Dawn’ Review: Kickboxer’s Prison Memoir Is Punch to the Gut
There are boxing movies, there are jailbird dramas and there are hell-and-back memoir adaptations — A Prayer Before Dawn throws all three of these genres into a dingy cell together, forcing them to either make nice or beat each other senseless in a survival-of-the-fittest showdown. Thankfully, filmmaker Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s Bosch-like take on Billy Moore’s autobiography of life in a Thai prison allows each of these distinct narrative types to eventually bleed all over each other, sometimes literally. Moore ( Joe Cole ) was a Liverpudlian ex-pat living in Bangkok, fighting amateur Muay Thai bouts. Locked up in 2007, Moore quickly found himself dropped into a world where he barely spoke the language, didn’t know the rules and couldn’t tell which direction the next fist is coming from. So he learned to rely on the kindness of strangers — notably a transgender convict named Fame (Pornchanok Mabklang) — the mercy of a gang led by a face-tattooed kingpin (Panya Yimmumphai) and … [Read more...] about ‘A Prayer Before Dawn’ Review: Kickboxer’s Prison Memoir Is Punch to the Gut
Passenger Beats Up United Airlines Employee in Insane Bloody Brawl at Newark Airport
UPDATE 7:05 AM PT -- Law enforcement tells us the passenger was arrested, not the employee ... despite the passenger's claim he didn't throw the first punch. An airline passenger and a United Airlines employee were in an all-out brawl at Newark Liberty International Airport, and the worker ended up flat on his ass. Witnesses say the 2 began arguing before pushing, slapping and ultimately punching each other. The video starts mid-fight ... the worker seems to push the passenger, who then slaps the employee in the face, and then all hell breaks loose. The 2 square off and then the passenger throws punch after punch ... and the blows clearly landed, because the employee eventually falls behind the counter and clearly has trouble getting up and steadying himself. The craziest part ... the employee is clearly dazed and bloodiest, but comes back for more, and that's where the video ends. The passenger is Larren Wong , a … [Read more...] about Passenger Beats Up United Airlines Employee in Insane Bloody Brawl at Newark Airport
Dr. Oz’s Bid To Be Republican Nominee In PA Senate Race Too Close To Call, Looks Headed To Recount
Despite a stamp of support from former president and fellow TV personality Donald Trump, celebrity-doctor-turned U.S. Senate hopeful Dr. Mehmet Oz failed tonight to clinch the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey. Oz and former hedge fund executive Dave McCormick are the two front runners in the race, which continues to be in too close to call, with McCormick clocking in at 31.2% of the vote and Oz at 31.1% as of 9 p.m. PT, according to the Washington Post. Under Pennsylvania law, any vote margin under .5% automatically triggers a recount. The race was tight after the polls closed and tightened further as results came in, making a recount all but certain. Out of 1.1 million Republican votes cast in the primary, Oz and McCormick remain separated by just 1477 votes, per Fox News. A dark horse candidate, Kathy Barnette, who raised far less than her better-known opponents but had surge of support late in the … [Read more...] about Dr. Oz’s Bid To Be Republican Nominee In PA Senate Race Too Close To Call, Looks Headed To Recount
The Game — He Threatened to Shoot Me … Hoops KO Was Self Defense (VIDEO)
TMZ.com TMZ obtained video of The Game unloading a punch on an opposing player during a pick-up basketball game -- but we're told the guy threatened to unload a gun in Game's ass before the fight. Sources connected to Game tell us the rapper says the punchee started things by throwing an elbow at Game ... who responded by elbowing him right back. Then it got really heated -- Game claims the guy said don't make me go to my gym bag because ... "I got that thing." The clear hint was the guy had a gun. What happened next was a case of punch or be punched -- we're told Game is saying the guy raised his fist first, and that's when Game threw his Tyson-tatted right hand . The video doesn't appear to back up Game's claim about the guy being first to make a fist. Game denies making any death threats as the victim claimed to cops. Police are still investigating. … [Read more...] about The Game — He Threatened to Shoot Me … Hoops KO Was Self Defense (VIDEO)
Aerosmith’s Amazing Road Back
S teven Tyler enters the hotel room and strips down to his black cracker – a sort of G-string. It’s three in the morning – four hours after Aerosmith wrapped up a show before 37,000 fans at Toronto’s Skydome – and the band’s hyperactive lead singer is back at the Four Seasons Hotel ready to do a little more performing. After contorting himself on the room’s double bed for a few minutes, he finally achieves his desired position: bound and gagged with an attractive female friend of the band’s riding him bareback. Someone turns on a video camera to record the moment for posterity. Tyler’s famous big lips – which rival Mick Jagger ‘s or even Carly Simon ‘s – break into a wide Cheshire-cat grin. Then suddenly his expression turns more serious, and he begins a series of muffled orgasmic squeals. This is, in all likelihood, not the first time that the forty-two-year-old Tyler has found himself in this sort of situation. In fact, to hear Tyler and the other members of Aerosmith … [Read more...] about Aerosmith’s Amazing Road Back
Do Democrats Finally Have Their Answer to Trumpism?
What sort of Democrat would it take to win against Donald Trump’s Republican Party? He (almost certainly a he) would be young and white, side-parted and square-jawed — as “pleasantly inoffensive” as “vanilla ice cream or a pair of well-pressed khakis,” as The Atlantic put it in 2018. His resume would glisten with public service, with time in the Marine Corps (military!) and as a prosecutor (law enforcement!). He’d defend popular entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicaid while condemning the GOP’s 2017 tax breaks for the rich. Maybe he’d fire off an AR-15 in an advertisement to prove he “loves to shoot,” but demand stronger background checks in the wake of a mass shooting. That candidate would, in other words, be Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Penn.), who won his seat during a March 2018 special election in the GOP-dominated district north of Pittsburgh. The 37-year-old had every reason to suspect he could replicate victory at the state level, too. … [Read more...] about Do Democrats Finally Have Their Answer to Trumpism?
